Isn't a staging world one of the ideas someone suggested that Massil in Castellan would be like? It being the main or last planet beore the orks and Cruciatine?

Possibly... But I believe a difference could be introduced... perhaps by paralleling Britain and Normandy?

Actually, Sojourner, I don't quite agree. Of course, no soldiers spend years at the front at a time, so they would probably not sleep in tents the entire time. But this is supposed to be a 'boot camp', so they'll need to get used to alternating between the tents and dirt-hole toilets, and the slightly more luxurious barracks with plumming and possibly even bunk-beds. At least this means that you probably won't need accomodations for more than 60% of the soldiers stationed there.

Alright, how about a potential restatement of the 'ole concept. Everyone seems fond of the idea that it might be some form of "transit/boot" camp, and while Tynesh is concerned that this in someway defeats the purpose of Massil, it has also been suggested that a parallel might be found with Britain/Normandy (post D-Day) in WWII. That is to say that you have the 'staging area' (the Academy (new name to be determined later) analogous to Britain) and Massil (analogous to the Normandy 'beach-head')?
I am, however, still keen on the involvement of "Lord Anargo" (the original one) in the system, not as a 'governor' but as a historical figure; titual head of the 'Academy'. Yes, I'm hanging on the concept since I see the 'bootcamp' approach being something that subsequently develops and is capitalised upon... or the Academy is capitalised on by the adeptus terra...
In this scheme the 'Academy' becomes a 'private' school initiated as a means of extending "good military practice" (and this is completely up for grabs!), e.g. the social emulation of the 'military schools' attributed to the schola progenium. Whether this has been completely usurped or is in the process of it...? Hmmn.

Okay the beachhead idea makes sense. The Academy incorporates training facilities for many of the sectors IG formations and also acts as a central hub of the sectors military. Resources both man and equipment are gathered and assigned to different warzones. It is the homeland in a sense. Massil on the other hand is comparable to the harbours and beachheads of Normandy. Here armies are assembled for forming of crusades, retaliation and counter-invasion forces. It supplies and maintains formations that may be heading to the Cruciatine Sector or the 'Ork Empire' in Anargo. Massil is also a frontline world, often under invasion, meaning supplies may be cut off. In these instances I see the planet as being more akin to Leningrad or stalingrad during WW2 rather than Normandy. In one situtation it is an offensive gathering point for the Imperium and in another it is the defensive stronghold city when the sub is under attack. Comprende?

This world concept is basically being re-hased in "Anargo at a Glance" as Camulod. The 'Academy' is a separate 'specialist school' distinct from the teaching 'facilities' of the Imperium, i.e. the schola progenium and acts as a means by which the 'political community' is integrated (as well as providing a valid service in terms of the PDF of various worlds).
In the 'modern climate' of Anargo, the world is being turned almost into a staging ground for a remobilisation of the forces in Castellan... Now that I think about it, this could have future potentials in terms of a Crusade even though I have been against this thus far. Not for a while, though. The 'staging world' premise is separate to the Academy, since that is a 'private' function and not something that is set up through the adeptus terra.
The 'private' function also extends to a potential formation of the "Anargo Buffer Zone", formed from one or two privately militarised worlds using PDF, etc. No-one yet knows about these worlds since they would likely not gain favour of the adeptus terra or the ordo hereticus...
