I think the Inuwit mythology could work well... ...Sol's 10th planet, Sednam is named after the Inuwit goddess of the sea. Maybe not making them wear animal skins etc (they live on a airless ice cube) or have kayak using veterans will be sensible as well!

Inuwit, huh? Well, I didn't find any cool inuwit imagery back when Kage suggested that, but perhaps the mythology is better. Could you tell us something about it, or perhaps offer some useful links? I didn't know Sol had a 10th planet btw... Well, it wasn't in my school books when I went to school!

I should have a copy of the first draft of the Frosties IA this weekend, apparently. I'm not going to divulge the information until Sikkukkut asks me to, but I'm keen that it gets "out there" for member consumption and interaction. In this way it follows the same basic format as the Eldar Sourcebook... Kage

Sedna wasn't in any books when I went to school either. It's existance has only been recently confirmed by British and Argentine astronomers within the month. I shall maybe wait for the IA before looking into Inuwit mythology too much!

The idea of a 10th planet has been kicking around for some time, with the debate raging 'hotly' (asmuch as it ever does between the tweed-wearers of the world)... Indeed, such debate still continues. Is it a planet or a planetoid? Does it have a moon or not? And, when it comes down to it, is Pluto truly a planet... Etcetera. Oh yes, and if you're going to do web-searches on the 'Inuwit' remember that it might have different spellings! For example, the one that I'm more familiar with from anthropological sources is "Inuit"... Kage

"And, when it comes down to it, is Pluto truly a planet..."
IIRC, the technical answer to that at the moment is no. Seems damnable stupid to me, but it's a planetoid, aparently.

Before we descide to start using inuit or inuwit folklore and mythology for a basis I think we need to first take a look at write up on the Frost Wraiths.....by the way Kage when's it coming?

I should be getting it this weekend sometime. I'll take a look at it there... Whether anyone else gets to see it at this point depends on Sikkukkut at this juncture, although I'm keen that something gets done rapidly. Marines are one of those things that fans of the 40k universe tend to be keen on, so I'd like it out there asap. Kage

Since the Space Marines are going to draw crowds for us in the same way as they do for GW, there's all the more reason to open them up for discussion and make sure they have the approval of the majority, unlike the Eldar sourcebook. (Note: I'm not saying the Eldar sourcebook will be disapproved, I'm just saying that you don't care what the majority thinks) Not that I don't have faith in Sikkukkut (honest! ), but if the Frost Wraiths are received like the infamous Stealth Marines, they'll do more harm than good to the project. But then, that was an extreme example

(Note: I'm not saying the Eldar sourcebook will be disapproved, I'm just saying that you don't care what the majority thinks) Oh, I care... I'm just not overtly concerned with the majority of arguments that I have seen thus far which are concerned entirely upon conformance to the wargame and the tactic assumption that GW is always correct, even if this is self-evidently not the case. The ES will be opened up when a good and firm basis has been established to which constructive criticism will be accepted (especially if it is devoid of inherent wargame bias! )... Erm, but that's entirely OffT... Kage

Okay, the Frost bringer homeworld is now called Adliden, which was the undersea realm over which Sedna rules.
Sedna herself, if no-one has posted it yet, was a beautiful but cruel girl who enjoyed rebuffing the advances and breaking the hearts of the men who courted her. When she finally did marry, the man turned out to be a bird-spirit and took her off to his island. Her father went and fetched her back while the spirit was away, but when it found her gone it chased them and brought up a horrific storm. Her father panicked and threw her overboard, but she grabbed the side of his boat. After he had struck out one of her eyes and cut off all her fingers one by one, she finally let go and sank down to Adliden which she took over and ruled as a goddess. One of her first actions was to send up a tide and wash away her father and dog so that they wound up in Adliden with her.
Her severed fingers vecame seals, over which she was thought to have power - although she was considered wicked and hostile to humans she also needed to be placated if you wanted to hunt successfully. If the hunting was continually poor the Angakoks would send their spirits down to Adliden to plead with her not to withhold the seals.
Anyway, there are a few interesting parallels with the Inuit that already exist with the FBs - their cold home and their use of vaguely harpoon-like "breaching spears" in battle. But they're not going to be "Space Eskimos" in the way that the Space Wolves are "Space Vikings".
Kage, at this point I'm expecting to mail you the IA on Monday evening my time - I'll string together some notes where I haven't fleshed the text out completely. Do you want the fiction bitz as well?

Sounds like a potentially interesting idea! I'm glad you've pointed out that they're not going to be space eskimos though, with rhinos pulled by packs of dogs or something like that Oh, and they're Frost Wraiths now... ;D

Could be worse they could rub their noses together as a sign brotherhood!

LoL! ;D
Well, my Frost Wraith ships are nearly fully painted, but I'm missing the chapter badge. Did we agree on that? If not, please make suggestions. As you may remember, I was in favour of something with a skull or bones, on account of the "Wraith" part of their name. I suggested a skull surrounded with blue flames, similar to the Word Bearer badge.

Could be worse they could rub their noses together as a sign brotherhood! You mean you cannot think of anything worse that dogs do as a sign of friendship or pack-spirit!? Ewwww... Kage
