The figure sat rocking back and forth on the cold tiled floor, eyes focusing on nothing, mouthing syllables that no man could ever comprehend. Though his body was slick with sweat, he shivered spasmodically. His shoulder-length hair was matted and sparse in places where it had been wrenched; by his own hands or by others, it was impossible to tell.
The stranger stood, hands clasped behind has back, watching for a few moments more before turning to the orderly who timidly stood in his imposing shadow.
"And you say he has been behaving this way for several days?"
The orderly flinched under the man's intimidating scowl. Glancing at a notepad for a moment, he replied.
"Yes. His behaviour changed abruptly seventy-eight hours thirty-two minutes ago, which the night shift operator logged according to protocol. The department chief saw him first thing the next morning and filed the report which we communicated to you."
The stranger gave no visible response to this information.
"Have you attempted to interpret what he is saying?"
The small bald man hesitated.
"N-no, we have not, despite his more sedate behavior it wasn't deemed safe to..."
"Do not. It will be merely incoherent babbling and there will be nothing to be learned from it. I have some experience of this man's condition and he appears no different to those I have ministered to before."
He glanced back towards the reinforced glass screen seperating he and the orderly from the patient.
"Inform your chief of department that I will be taking custody of this patient under the authority of the Adeptus Administratum. He shall be placed in the care of the Ordo Hospitaller at some suitable location. He is no longer your concern. He is not to be approached or observed further under any circumstances. He will remain in confinement as normal until the psychiatric team arrive to recieve him in two days. I shall communicate further instructions shortly."
"Sir, I must point out that this is highly irregular and the Chief of Department will certainly not accept the legitimacy of this claim without some sort of official mandate..."
The Doctor drew himself up and glowered at the smaller man. With a threatening intonation in his voice he spoke.
"It is not your business to question this matter. You will convey my wishes to your supervisor as I ask and it will be upon him to decide on a course of action as is appropriate to his authority. Do not presume to obstruct the work of the Adeptus again. That is all."
The Doctor turned and stalked down the narrow corridor, leaving the bemused orderly behind.
