While thinking of Witch Hunters and Sisters of Battle, I came to the realization, that we will need adversaries for them to chase down. We must therefore come up with heretical orginizations. These do not always need to be of chaos. Below is a Cult idea that I have been working on that might be added to the list of those that need to be eliminated. It started out mostly as a tounge in cheek joke, but wound up making twisted kind of sense that would appeal to the disaffectd masses.

The Cult of Smiley
The cult of smiley has existed since man first left the cradle of Holy Terra. It promoted itself as a voice of reason and reconciliation, promoting a universal language. It said that it strove to unifie all of humanity in peace and happiness. It was doomed to failure. Persecuted for their beleifs, the smiley faith went underground. Small comunities of Smilies continued to practice their faith and communicated through the symbolic based language of emotic (smiley speak).

Each church of smiley was lead by a Loufran (smiley priest). They were so named after the mythical founder of the movement Franklin Loufrani. The church continued underground for the next several hundred years. Several notable leaders of the movement were martyred during that time. With the rise of the Emperor of Mankind and the subsequent religious purges that followed, it was thought that the faith had been wiped out.
Recent occurances have cast doubt on their assumed demise. A person calling themself The Great Loufra has recently emerged. Little is known about this enigmatic figure. It is not even know what they looks like or even if they are a man or woman. In public the GL wears a mask in the shape of a large golden smiley face. Many of the cult’s followers are like wise attired.
The Heresey of the High Loufran is gaining support and followers. The ideas of unification and peace seems to resonate with the general populace. There is one marked difference between this new version of the cult and the original. From its inception, the original cult members were pacifists. The resurgent cult of smiley is all to willing to take up arms against any aggressors.
At present, we have been unable to penetrate the higher echelons of their ranks to find out the identity of their leader. We have been able to determine that the cult may be more fractious than we first thought.
There appears to be several factions within the cult as a whole that we may be able to manipulate. The main two sub cults of the smiles appear to be the xenos and the mortis.
The Xenos are denoted by a smiley face with 3 eyes rather than the standard 2. it is unknow if this is to denote human members with mutations or possibly alien cultures that have been indoctrinated into the smiley cult.
The Mortis are rumored to be a death cult that has incorporated the teachings of the smiley. They are denoted by a standard smiley face with a black hole ringed with red in the center of the forehead. Slogans such as "Have a Nice Afterlife" and such adorn many of the robes worn by these cultists.
We will keep you informed as our operatives gain further information on the disposition of their forces and their leadership structure.
The Polite Bureau
This is the reducation arm of the Smiley Cult. The Polite Bureau operatives serve much the same purpose as the inquisition of the Imperium. Their slogan is "Think Happy Thoughts". The "Or Else" is implied. Everyone beleives that they are just looking out for the welfare of society.
The basic troop selection of the cult army is the Smiley Throng. This is the core of the smiley movement, its ardent parishoners and devotees. Without its throngs of followers, the power base of the cult would vanish.
They High Loufran came to power based on their support. The Throng tied up traffic and stopped the flow of services until the existing government came screaching to a halt. Memebers of the throng come from all walks of life. Though not all skilled warriors, they are highly motivated followers.
The throng go forth into battle carrying large banners with happy slogans and bearing large plaques with the great smiley embalzoned upon them. they may usually be heard singing the theme songs of the great morality plays of the ancient past.
These morality plays deal with the issues of kindness and cooperation. Rather than portaying a certain type or class of person in a given role, the morality plays replace people with animals.
The replacement of animals to discuss social topics in a non-threatening manner has been termed ani-mation.
Some of the throng actually dress up in costumes representing the chaarcters from their favorite morality plays.
Ok, I know it is hard to keep a straight face when reading this, but I was thinking that there had to be a cult out there that could represent your tipical Science Fiction Convention attendee or those into cos-play. Such people must exist even in the dark future, even if not in as organized fashion as we have now.
If everyone is not happy with the above description of the Throng, how about this one.
The Throng is made up of smiley Devotees. The Devotees are the backbone of the Cult. They provide it with monetary as well as technical support.
Cult members come from all walks of life. Most are not skilled as warriors, but may have weapons for their own personal defense others may veterans or deserters from imperial forces. Many devotees are armed only with signs and banners and their faith. If a battle ensues the signs may always be used as close combat weapons to bludgeon the unbelievers.
