what are the chances of an asteroid hitting a hiveworld? and correct me if Im wrong, but wouldnt that create a form of Nuclear Winter if the rocks big enough? Just trying to create some background history for some systems

The chances are impossible to calculate, dependent upon a wide number of features. Yes, dust could be thrown up into the air and create a 'Nuclear Winter'... but arguably for a hiveworld this is going to be a fairly superfluous event. After all, hiveworlds such as Necromunda are already in worse state than a 'nuclear winter'. What would be of more concern is the ground/shockwaves sent through the planet which would destroy hives if they existed at the time of the impact. Of course, the impact could be used as an explanatory mechanism for the hives to form (i.e. population aggregation for heat, centralisation of resources and labour, etc.) but explanation would have to be found at just how they managed to throw up hives, or whatever, in the matter of years that an extinction-level-event/nuclear winter would take... Of course, this type of concept is actually quite intriguing for the Hive Partena world... Kage

Wouldn't the Imperial Navy be able to prevent it? Since you'll realise you're going to be hit by an asteroid a long time before you are.

and if its a fudal world?? perhaps the world is isolated? there are lots of other scenarios you must consider... perhaps the Imperial Navy has been destroyed from another major threat, an Ork Waaaag!! maybe?

You will notice an asteroid only if you have the correct surveilence systems and are looking in the correct direction.
It could easilly slip in relatively unnoticed or completely un noticed if it came through a hole in the sensor net (Assuming the planet is advanced enough to have a sensor net)
And most readings have a tendency to be from the edge of a System.
It could easilly take weeks or months for a Navy presence to arrive to a Distress call.
Besides you can also add in the fun thing of Having fanatics running amok on the planet proclaiming it to be the Emporers justice descending upon the planet to cleanse it of the unclean.
That could certainly stuff up any organised attempt to destroy it.
