Here we go, the tech-levels used, set out in nice easy-to-understand form:
0. Stone Age: fire, lever, language.
1. Bronze Age (Athens): wheel, writing, agriculture.
2. Iron Age (Rome): keystone arch.
3. Medieval (pre-1450): steel
weapons, math with zero.
4. Renaissance/Colonial (1450-1700): gunpowder, printing.
5. Industrial Revolution (1701-1900): mass production, steam power, telegraph.
6. World War I - II (1901-1950): cars, airplanes, radio.
7. Modern (1951-2000): computer, laser, miniaturization, mature fission technology.
8. Microscience (2001-2050?): AI, gengineering, longevity, micromachines , early fusion technology.
9. Nanoscience: environmental engineering, nanomachines, sentient AI, mature fusion technology.
10/A. Antimatter: AM power, artificial gravity, slow FTL radio.
11/B. Force: force screens, tractor beams, fast FTL radio.
12/C. Gravitic: contragravity, grav compensators, personal force screens.
13/D. Worldbuilding: full terraforming of planets.
14/E. Dysonian: construction of worlds, ringworlds, and so on.
15/F. MT: matter transmission, cosmic power.
16/G. As you wish . . .
From the Guide:
"Technology Related Details: The guidelines here are for a progressive ‘sci-fi’ universe, not the more
‘retrotech’ sci-fantasy of the 40k universe. Again, these are used for guidelines only to increase the
complexity of an otherwise simplistic and often inherently contradictory system, i.e. to show variation
on a local level which can offer an interest in terms of subsector economy. As a general statement the
following information applies to the Imperium of the Anargo Sector Project (and arguably the
Imperium of the canonical universe):
• Maximum Manufacturing Tech Level – The maximum manufacturing technology level of the
Imperium is set as C/D (12/13, respectively). This is found only on Forge Worlds of the
adeptus mechanicus and those worlds which have a significant franchise with that
organisation, where it can actually supercede the high common tech level. As a rule of thumb,
developed Forge Worlds will have a technology level of D while ‘newer’ Forge Worlds will
have one of C.
• Common Manufacturing Tech Level – Non-Forge Worlds/franchise worlds may not have a
manufacturing technology level above 11 (B). Any system that has a technology level greater
than 11 is automatically re-set to 11 (or lower) unless that system is a Forge World.
• Available Tech Level – Available tech level in the Imperium (archaeotech) ranges from E-F
(14-15), with an exceptionally rare G (16), normally represented on individual artefact basis."
