The protean is, well yeah, a little off. He is a little hunched which could hide his neck aswell is as his armour which is heavier than most. The powerfist arm does seem a little long, but might be offset if his own hand ends where the powerfist wrist begins? . On the full drawing he does have a bionic leg and his shoulder mounted (plasma?) gun is connected to his backpack which is connected to his head . Oh yeah the belt in the middle of the toro is not the end of his torso . As you can see I don't want to give up on this drawing just yet . Minister you're not selfish, I'm here to draw so the more requests the better. Should I just switch the original's weapon with a projectile weapon or should I make a new one? img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Darkster/ASP/Protean1.png

Well, I must admit that it looks better now that I see the whole thing. Looks good now. The left leg doesn't look quite right (around the hips), but that's cool. Heheh, I guess I'm really picky when it comes to anything that has to do with my own contributions... Good work. Let's see some more, please ;D

The picture's great, and I do like that hat. ;D I'm just seeing if I can shuffle the gun to something which fits the Brethren of the Watch as oposed to the Guardian Brethren, because I'm picky. ;D

Mmm... Possibly it's the knife attatched to the shotgun (if it's not attatched, it looks like it is).

Unless Darkizar has updated the pic, that's not a bayonet attached to the shotgun. I don't know what it's called in English, but the cylinder under the barrel is where you cock the shotgun. You pull that handgrip up and down, like in Terminator 2 If it was a bayonet, you'd want it reaching further than the barrel I actually like the last two, Darkizar. What's wrong with the Dorvastorite, in my opinion, is the butt of the shotgun. It doesn't look very comfortable to shoot with. Find a pic of a real shotgun for comparison. The left hand might also need a second touch As for the Meksumian... I don't quite like his boots. They actually look a bit like socks Otherwise, I like it a lot. Lasgun looks fine, in my opinion. For the rest of the pics though, we should have the Guardsman / PDF soldier standing up, ready for combat. It's not very representative to see a picture of one making food or sleeping. That the Meksumian is sitting down is quite appropriate though, since zholud wanted them to have a less serious image Oh, and no, as an artist, you're not obliged to contribute to other parts as the project, such as world-building. You're free to do so, but if you're happy with just drawing, so are we

Btw, good to see you back, Zark! Can't wait to see those scetches I'll grab me sketch pad and get em scanned in later tonight, feeling too lethargic for painting another squad of tribesmen tonight And I never really left, I was just lurking Darkizar, those sketches truly rock. I love your version of the Tech Guard. A couple of comments from my design notes: The guy with the banner is a Veteran, hence the larger backpack and MIU Plasma Pistol. This also means his 'robes' are a little larger and more ornate than the regular guys. The robes are more of a 'skirt' type affair. They are intentionally longer on the left hand side as this side is presented towards the enemy when firing (traditionally dates back to when the Proteans had less resources and couldn't afford to make both sides equal) and they incorporate an armour 'weave' similar to mesh armour. Basic infantry get white ones, veterans have black/white halved. Sergeants and squad leaders (and officers) get crennelations at the bottom also. Basic body armour is similar to standard Cadian armour, although the rebreather is standard gear. There are a few extra armour plates, and heavy reinforced gloves and leggings. The shoulder pads are extended and are coloures according to company, the number being squad inside a circle which colour indicates platoon.(technically they banner bearer should have an 'H' but I didn't consider this when I drew the sketch). Officers gain gold braiding on the outside edges of the shoulder pads, and Senior Officers and above also get a head plume similar to a Roman Centurion (I am basing elements of the regiment around Roman legions). A common weapon amongst Protean Officers and Veterans is the 'Gladius' pattern Storm Bolter, due to it's accuracy and stopping power. I have some sketches of these too, but think of them like a Bolter with a Lasgun style stock, and extended frontage with the second barrel underslung. When soldiers are inducted, they are injected with nanomachines and are given additional protective implants. Their bones are laced with ceramite, an advanced HUD system overlays their retinas and they have several bio-feedback monitors. Nowhere near the same level of sophistication of Space Marines, but similar nonetheless (a popular nickname for the Proteans amongst other Anargo commaders is 'Baby Marines'). The only real visible effect of this is a silvery sheen to the eyes. Although it brings them a little closer to the Machine God, these enhancements are not seen as anything major; hoever full bionic augmentation such as limbs are put on display proudly. Well, I think that's enough for now, if I'm not carefull I'll take over the thread I'll get the rest written up and compile a thread in the Protean Sector Forum...

Cels: I did indeed edit the picture ;D. There was a knife going vertical down at the end of the barrel for swinging at stuff, wasen't that good so I removed it. I will try to edit the butt of the shotgun if I get time to it (I would rather see if I could do a new drawing thats even better than trying to fix one that is already a little broke ). The boots do look like socks , but as I said before these arent really drawings that should be shown as artwork, but more as a guide to how certain things look (Like boots.. look like socks.. ack) I'll try to make more basis sketches of the soldiers as in the codex's overview's of the regiments, if that's what you mean. Zark: I will try to correct the flaws and missings but if there still are some in the future you will have to correct me . Rawr

No problem, hell I have changed details of the design several times anyway, feel free to adapt (after all, there are several TG regiments, some of them will have unique traits). On a related note, I have uploaded the sketches to my Photobucket album - img43.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Anargo/A brief summary (PB seems to be displaying in reverse alphabetic order): ptgmk1a: The original sketch. ptgmk1b: A couple of Veterans based on the same design, although bulkier. The one on the left has a bolter and no visible mods, the right one has a Plasmagun and Bionic Head/Arm (probably due to said weapon). ptgmk1c: Supposed to be a uniform overview sketch, although the proportions are way out (my main problem with drawing). ptgmk2a: Profile pic of the Mk2 design. Chest plate is more similar to the Cadians, and the shoulder pads are rounder and go under the robes. The legs are a lot less Space-Marine-y. Carries a Gladius Stormbolter. My best sketch so far IMO. ptgmk2b: An officer wearing Mk2 uniform. The proprtions are hideously off in this one. Shows the crenellations on the robes and the head plume quite well, I prefer the respirator in this pic. Carries a normal style Storm Bolter and a Power Glaive (big fancy PWeap). Inset pics are: proto-Gladius Storm Bolter, detail of Glaive Blade, and a tiny sketch showing the robes in their black/white split. ptgweaps1: A bunch of guns and a sketch of the AdMech 'cog'. Includes a Standard Stormbolter, Gladius Storm Bolter with extended clip and a Protean Grenade Launcher (un-named pattern as of yet). To note: wherever the winged skull IG symbol appears, on the Teach Guard the Skull will have the Admech Cog, or at the very least be bisected b/w. EDIT: I probably should mention this; I intend to collect a small force of Protean Guard at some point (already have a list written) so the reason for making them closer to Cadians is to facilitate Conversions

For the Gladius-pattern stormbolter, or other possible variants, how about stealing Jes Goodwin's concepts for the Ultramarines? www.ghostdev.com/~golroc/ultra3.pngI thought these stormbolters were pretty cool, even if I can't quite figure out how they would work. Ah well, it's the 41st millennium ;D Some nice concept scetches for the Tech-Guard there, Zark. I like the scetch of the tech-guard with stormbolter and power halberd. I would have liked it more if the helmet-decoration pointed forward though, like Roman Praetorians. Looks like it's going to be a lot of work converting the Protean army, Zark, if you're using the Cadian kits. It might not be a bad idea to work off of those, actually, so don't worry about it. The major difference between Proteans and Cadians will be that Proteans will have a lot bigger, fancier guns, a lot of bionics, a lot of AM symbols and different robes and tabards. Oh, and of slightly extra padding, for legs and hands. The helmets should be different too, on our concept scetches at least. Perhaps you could use the Vox-operator helmet from the Cadian sets? I doubt everyone uses those, so they should be easy enough getting your hands on, Zark. On the weapons, I'm thinking cables from the Tech Guards' necks to their guns, maybe even bionic hands that can connect directly with their weapons, like one of Ravenor's henchmen in the novel Ravenor. I don't quite agree with the idea of the robes being longer on one side than the other. It may be reasonable (with emphasis on may), but it's not very pleasing to the eye. At least not my eye... I'm also not 100% happy with the shoulderpads. I much prefer the SM/Cadian style.... Of course, it's important to remember that the AM tech-guard would be far less uniform than your typical IG company. There might be several different armour patterns withing a single regiment, for example, not to mention a dizzying array of different weapons. But let's not go ape drawing Tech-Guard. We have lots of other stuff waiting! ;D PS: Zark, post your Tech-Guard armylist in the wargaming forum, why don't ya!

The conversion plans largely involve adding robes and rebreathers to Cadian plastics via GS. For backpacks, probably see if I can get hold of the archive Space Wolf scout backpack, although that may be expensive A small amount of work will be needed to give them heavy gloves, and the feet will be largely unchanged on most models, as the robes would obscure them anyway. As for the Ultramarines SBolters, they look a bit too 'ancient tech' for me, plus they're HUGE, so I think I'll stick with the current one. Besides, commanders may use different patterns anyway. I think you have a point about the robes; it kinda evolved from the first sketch where they were shorter on one side to show off the bionic leg, and went from there. Equal length would work better. As for shoulder pads, I think I'd use something like the ones on the mk1 design, but closer to Cadian pads. I personally prefer the plume the way it is, as the guy is an officer. Possibly a bodyguard would have front-to-back ones though.

For backpacks, probably see if I can get hold of the archive Space Wolf scout backpack, although that may be expensive Sounds nice. Give us a peak when you've finished your first models As for the Ultramarines SBolters, they look a bit too 'ancient tech' for me, plus they're HUGE, so I think I'll stick with the current one. Besides, commanders may use different patterns anyway. Fair ynuff. I personally prefer the plume the way it is, as the guy is an officer. Possibly a bodyguard would have front-to-back ones though. That, or different Protean tech-guard regiments could have different decorations Nice Proteans, Darkizar. One thing that worries me though, is that they look too clean and fleshy for Tech-Guard. Here's some pictures that should give you an idea of what I really want them to look like. 3rd Ed Rulebook, page 107 Inquisitor rulebook, page 32 A description from Ben Counter's Soul Drinker; "He had his grenade launcher, entrusted to him as a child when the neurojacks were first sunk into the back of his skull and he was upgraded to a member of the tech-guard. (...) Kiv shrugged himself into the heavy flak-tabard and strapped up the knee-high boots that would protect his feet and legs from the backwash of haywire chaff released from the disruptive grenades he would fire. (...) He drew the jack-lines from the targeting array and pushed them into the sockets in his skull, feeling the orientation of the launcher through his own sense of balance, the barrel temperature through his skin, the ammo count through the fullness of his stomach." Basically a cross between a Tech-Priest and a Cadian Guardsman.
