Continuing my rambling ruminations.
Atlantean Government:
Oceanmaster
The highest rank in the Atlantean chain of governmental command. Only one Oceanmaster is elected per planet, or in case of loosely populated areas, a series of planets spanning multiple sectors. The Oceanmaster is nominated by one of the Seamasters for that area, and must be seconded by a four-fifths majority (cultural significance, relates to the four major oceans on the Atlantean homeworld). They, like the Seamasters, rule until death or removal from office.
Seamaster
The regional or colony leader, selected by a general vote of the planet/colony’s populace. If the colony is small enough to warrant only one Seamaster, they rule unrestricted but always with the people’s interest in mind. In larger planets or colonies, the Seamasters form a council that makes major decisions for the world. They generally hold their position until death, or if a gross breach of conduct or abuse of their power leads to a call for impeachment.
Currentmaster
An area leader, selected by a joint council of all the Tidemasters that would be in the Currentmaster’s area of influence. They are chosen to lead for a set term, varying depending on the size of the area they command.
Tidemaster
Clan leader. The most respected person in the village (or villages, if there are multiple villages close together). Almost always chosen for life, but they may step down or retire to enjoy a peaceful life before it is over.
Atlantean Religion
One god, with five “faces” or aspects. Name is Moranon. (More-a-non).
Sala’Moranon (sah-lah) – Face of Light and Life. A primary face. In command of the positive forces of the universe, including the renewal of everything but also the eventual destruction of all to allow something else a turn in the shine.
Sulu’Moranon (soo-loo) – Face of Death and Darkness. A primary face. Master of death and destruction, but also responsible for the elimination of outdated things to make room for the new and better, the upswing on the great cycle.
Moranon’irali (er-rally) – Face of War. Worshipped by soldiers and warriors. Brings luck to soldiers on the battlefield and smites down their enemies.
Moranon’yere (ee-air) – Face of Peace. Secondary Face. Worshipped by craftsmen, merchants, government officials, and diplomats, all of which need calm waters in which to easily conduct their business. The counterpart to Moranon’irali.
Xa’Moranon’az (Za-more-a-non-az) – Face of Growth. Growth is the one force of the universe that proceeds regardless of intervention, and as such the Fifth Face of Moranon has no counterpart. It is worshipped primarily by builders, farmers, and traders, but all Atlanteans pay a degree of worship.
In the rare cases when an Atlantean falls under Chaos sway, it is almost always one devoted to the Face of Growth and fooled by a masquerade of Tzeentch.
Worship
All Atlanteans give daily respect to Sala’Moranon and Sulu’Moranon. Secondary faces are given regular observance, depending on occupation. Individual clans also often worship ancestor spirits, typically wise and respected heroes from the clan’s past that supposedly stick around to watch over their descendants, but this is minor. Worship takes the form of shrines or statuettes dedicated to each of the Faces.
