ok here it goes, this thread is going to be the palce where you people post your IG regiments, the ones you made up, kind of what Zidagar Dinoman had with the regiments he made up for his planet Altarra.
So post your regiment ideas (kinda like the ones on the armageddon website, info, fluff, artwork perhaps)

Thank you, malika. I think that this is an entirely worthy thread. The one thing that I have gotten from reading the various world generation threads is that there is the assumption that Guard regiments raised on these worlds will be present in the Anargo sector... I would say that this is not necessarily the case. Having a thread where basic Guard regiment history, whether raised on a world within the Anargo sector or not, is going to be entirely useful. Kage

thanx...so I could come up with a regiment, without it having to be related a planet, I mean I wont have to create a whole planet in advance and all that?

If you want the regiment to be used as part of the Anargo project, you'll obviously have to choose its original planet. We have not yet decided if all members are obliged to create at least one planet, I think, but that seems to be the tradition so far. There is the possibility of creating an Imperial Guard regiment for a world that is already created, such as if you were to ask Dinoman for permission to take the Altarran "Rough Rider" regiments, but... at this stage of the project, that's not really what we're looking for, I think.
I guess we're going to have to settle the question of involvement once and for all...

How do we go about starting up an IG homeworld?

Kage has this whole system for it...but you could also just write your ideas for an IG regiment down here, and then we see if we could put that in a world, or some world from outside the sector (not all regiments come from the anargo sector)

The best thing to do is to start working on the homeworld right away, IMO, since it is likely that all members will be required to build one world sooner or later anyways.
Welcome to the project, Antonius Kelek! If you want to get started on creating a planet (and its Imperial Guard regiments, PDF, etc) I suggest that you first get a quick overview of the sector. You then post a concept in the World-building Questions and World submissions forum, and we'll guide you from there. A concept would be like "Hey, wouldn't ibe cool to have a low-tech mining world where the women did all the labour, and were obligated by law to be half-naked?" Of course, that specific concept is not entirely appropriate ;D

I've been reading through this world building thingie...its huge...I mean, cant someone just make some worlds and give them to some users kinda like "take it or leave it" and then let them work on that world?

It is entirely possible for a regiment to be Founded outside of the Anargo sector. However, the goal here is not to "do a GW" and just create shallow, superficial descriptions of the worlds and then just important huge quantities of foreign armies. The local army will have an important role, but balanced against this is the nature of the distance to which regiments are transported and the nature of their return. (Frex, ZDinoman seems to assume that they return, while I think that this is a big stretch of the imagination in all circumstances...) Kage

If a Guardsman can't return home after his years of service, what modivation does he or she have to even join up, much less work hard? It seems that retired guardsmen are given a pension which they can purchase transport to any world they want. It's not like the Imperium says "You can settle on any world but your homeworld, trooper."

As with CELS, I would suggest that new members 'cut their teeth', as it were, on a new world/system. It's the best way of getting directly involved with the basic premises of the Anargo Sector Project. Creating a Guard regiment which may or may not come from the Anargo sector is all fine and dandy, but hardly immerses you as a true member of the project... One of the original impetus for joining the a Guard regiment - assuming that you were eligible for selection in the first place; it is not an entirely voluntary position! - was for the ultimate formation of a colonia. With the caveat that I haven't bought the Uplifting Primer since, as yet another example of horrendously over-priced GW products, I'm wary to do so... The idea of a 'pension' after at least 20-25 years of service is reasonable. But they'll need the infrastructure to be able to return to their worlds, which I'm also fine with since it means more ships... But not all need to be able to return to the world, since they'll probably be issued transfer rights to a new planet of their choice based upon immigration constraints. Edit - Also be wary to keep wargame and RPG statistics out of any posts here. I'm presuming more the former than the latter, but it would necessitate a move to the Wargaming board. Kage

I'm going to raise this point in an established thread rather than creating a new one... Do not Imperial Guard regiments tend to be stationed and/or sent to locations that are spatially quite distant from their Founding worlds? Perhaps more a concern of the Castellan subsector, but it seems that many of the worlds are having regiments raised and stationed on the same planet... Of course, simple demand is an argument against 'foreign' import, but the question is still valid... Surely the regiments in the Anargo sector should not strictly come from that sector...? Kage

Indeed, most Imperial Guard regiments are sent to locations that are spatially quite distant from their Founding World. Of course, being sent a long distance is not a goal in itself, so I imagine they'd be sent as short distances as possible, but it's still likely that the Anargo sector would send IG regiments to other sectors, and that other sectors would send IG regiments to the Anargo sector. The same goes for Imperial Navy assets, by the way. Still, I'd suggest that not all Imperial Guard regiments are sent-off world. Specifically, fortress worlds seem to raise IG regiments that stay on the planet. This might be wrong, since it's based simply on what I've seen from Cadia, but that is the only fortress world I have information of, so there you go. The logic being, I suppose, that the world pays its tithes mostly (if not purely) by raising these regiments, and the Imperium is not willing to let the local Commander judge how strong PDF forces he wants, nor to let the local Commander be in command of these forces. Btw, I've already suggested that one of the bordering sectors (Validus) has sent military resources to both the Anargo and Cruciatine sector, in the sector-thread
