Small points, which are only slightly related but which have been brought up: 1. That picture is of a necromundian guardsman in out-hive gear. I like his gear, it looks kick ass kinda gives it a sci fi feeling

Point two is from me reading Crossfire, where the weapons manufacturers to the gentry had paid the Mechanicus to grant them certain core patterns to work from.
Basically, the Mechanicus wants to turn a profit. If a world wants to equip its PDF with tanks, the AM want a cut. Therefore they can either buy direct from AM controlled worlds, or they can buy from a planet where the right to produce from Mechanicus patterns has been purchased. Of course, they can ignore this and produce them anyway, but then the Mechanicus gets.. awkward.

From what I get the smith families made primary rare, mastercrafted items, not 10,000 guns per day factories. On other hand, I’m sure that small arms are made on civilized worlds and for certainty on Hiveworlds, at least Necromunda.

maybe some of the smith families turned into big companies, mass producing weapons

But what if a planet can't afford the AM's price for lasgun patterns? Won't the High Lords be upset that the AM are keeping technology to themselves that can be used for the good of the Imperium, just for the sake of profit?

"But what if a planet can't afford the AM's price for lasgun patterns? Won't the High Lords be upset that the AM are keeping technology to themselves that can be used for the good of the Imperium, just for the sake of profit?" In that case the planet will be stuck with using localy-manufactured autoguns, or whatever, rather than lasguns. Which fitsquite nicely into rather a lot of things...

The concept of the adeptus mechanicus 'franchise' is also a possibility... but quite simply if a world doesn't have the infrastructure to locally produce these weapons then all they can do is import, franchise or otherwise. Lasguns, however, are entirely produceable outside of the 'controls' of the adeptus mechanicus... Kage

But what if a planet can't afford the AM's price for lasgun patterns? From what I could judge, the is no set price for arms in Imperium in order to prevent existence of private armies which otherwise would threaten the peace (…or Imperial oppression). All this stuff is ‘given’ to Munitorium to equip gathered troops in return of other services from Imperium. Many worlds equip own troops just because it allows some ‘cuts’ in Imperial Tithe, I suppose. Won't the High Lords be upset that the AM are keeping technology to themselves that can be used for the good of the Imperium, just for the sake of profit? I highly doubt the profits urge of Mechanicus. Yes, they may need resources in order to complete its STC Quest, or for creation of wonders, etc., but no profits as end-all, thus their marketing strategy may be unefficient/sub-optimal. And they may even agree for looses sometimes.

[quote author=Zidagar Dinoman. Finally, there are the Altarran Dragoons, regiments mounted entirely on horseback which act as a honor guard and also patrol the countryside surrounding a city. An Altarran city will typically have one of each type of regiment stationed in its borders.

What do you think?
[/quote] why would an honour guard be doing tasks like patrolling the countryside?....unless they are''retired veterans that are past their sell by date/over the hill or just to old or valuble to be wasted in future wars?maybe teachers in the milatery academy? as well as patrolling which shouldn't be their main job but more a by-product/hobby ,when things are quiet in the schools ;D sort of thing just a thought
