so, i find it interesting that it took so long to bring up the use of flyingwings or lifting body craft to transport cargo from the surface into orbit and back again. flying wings would require only normal jet and rocket engines to reach orbit, and thus could be constructed on a mass scale.
etc. thus, if you were building a ship to transport cargo from system to system i wouldn't build it to operate in an atmosphere, since that job would be handled far more cheaply by dedicated orbital ferries.

<sigh> It is less a problem of them not necessarily being thought of, but trying to handle things so that they remain as true as possible to the 40k universe. I'm presuming that you mean something significant by 'flying wings' since I've never really heard of them by that name...
...But, yes, they reduce the cost of orbital transfer but also require a significant infrastucture to have them. Moving the volumes of traffic, if you are to believe the ubership imagery, is going to require gadzillions (this is tongue in cheek) of this type of structure and still be expensive...
