If all engines worked by entering the warp, then I don't see why 'interstellar' warp drives would be so unusual as opposed to the ones you're talking about, zholud. Also, there's the question of why such warp drives would use fuel (which Imperial engines are known to do) and why they would have plasma reaction plumes, etc...

Also, there's the question of why such warp drives would use fuel (which Imperial engines are known to do) and why they would have plasma reaction plumes, etc... Also, zholud: that is essentially how the drive works in the Alien universe (i.e. the displacement drive and the step up, the jump drive). As to the reaction mass, again the only problem here is that it really cannot achieve the accelerations that GW would hope, hence the rather dubious game mechanic introduced for the Soleus which stated that fuel effieny increased significantly at lower 'power' than the engine is possible to increase. E.g. if a ship is capable of 2G acceleration, then thrusting at 0.2G allows an increase in fuel efficiency by 10, if it thrusts at 0.02G then it's fuel efficiency increases to 100. Thus, while it might only have 2 G-Hours of thrust, operating at 0.02G increases this to 200 hours... It's a really dodgy mechanic but was meant only to be able to give Imperial ships performance characteristics that are hinted at in the 'fluff'... It also makes things a bit more complex, but might still be the best 'fudge' over than going over to reactionless thrusters with some 'mechanic' which would explain fuel consumption... Kage

Just in the same way as why Imperium uses Navigators while Astropaths and Rune Priests are known as teleporting with the power of mind and without any engine Why use sails when you have oars? I guess those engines are similar to respectively sails and oars. Does it make any Sense? Also, there's the question of why such warp drives would use fuel (which Imperial engines are known to do) and why they would have plasma reaction plumes, etc... Anything should use energy or matter to give you action (e.g. movement) so I don’t see any problem…

Right, since the thing seems to have stalled on the drives, how about something else. Crew figures, for instance? I'm guessing with its size relative to other Imperial ships we're not looking much under 20,000, perhaps a chunk more.

From what I recall, ‘number of wounds’ of vessel is equals to 1,000 of crew… but 15,000-20,000 for a Cruiser is adequate number IMHO, is AEGIS Cruiser had 2,000 crew and is just 10% or less in volume to cruiser.

THis is not, recall, a cruiser. This is a Battleship. A crusier has a crew of about 12,000, soo..

Cruiser I'm looking to keep at around 13,000 all told. Seems about right to me, and besides that it coresponds to the crew breakdown I have elsewhere. ;D

Well, the thread was perhaps over-ambitious at this juncture in the project in terms of creating the flagship in detailed RPG terms. It also seems to have moved away from that thing, mostly due to the fact that I don't have the time to post information to truly create the flagship... Ah well. Should be interesting to see just a detailed description of the thing which will still be more than GW have a tendency to produce. <contented sigh; haven't GW-based in weeks...> Kage

Out of curiosity; where did you get these numbers from? I don't recall seeing any mention of the number of crew on a cruiser... it's always just 'thousands and thousands' or 'countless' or something like that...

Execution Hour gives it as being a bit over 10,000 (can't recall the referance off hand). Swords have around 800 (Shadow Point).

Right, I put the mass tentativley at about somewhere in the region of 1,000,000,000,000 kg. Who's with me on that? Any opinions?

And, even if I'm just doing it in the style of my Lunar class, I'm going to need some sort of opinion reguards to point defence...

Numbers, types, locations?
I'd say batteries of everything from lascannons to Plasma Blastguns in wide-traverse electric or mechanical turrets, mounted predominantly on the dorsal spine and keel, with a fair few clustered around the bridge.

Numbers, mostly. Weapons are mostly las-cannon (of 40K trooper scale and up) or autocannon for the last-ditch gunnery.
