Got a quote from my source for webhosting as per my mention on a previous thread: Came back with £40 per year - this covers: Practically unlimited space (within reason) Up to 10 MySQL Databases PHP and Perl scripting access A single Domain Name Plus a bunch of other stuff that I'd need to look up to check. Domain name itself has to be bought in 2-year blocks. As a side thought, with this server we could run our own forum on there, and integrate it more with the Anargo 'experience', and not have to put up with the Proboards getting busy half the time

That sounds as reasonable as anything that I've looked at and, perhaps, more so. My experience with selecting web-hosts is practically zero. Erm, okay make that actually zero. I've done some reading on it, though! Erm except that I just say that £ sign rather than a $ sign... I can, however, contribute some... And the forum idea is great. How difficult is that to set up, out of interest? And is there any chance of 'porting in the older material from this forum? I've just got a sneaking suspicion that it would be very difficult unless we got the members into it! Anyway, thanks for looking up information on this. As schoon hinted at in PM, and to which I agree to an extent, it is increasingly important that we get information up regardless of how we tweak it later to get it looking more like it does in our imaginations!

Installing a forum would be fairly easy, I believe the web hosting paskage includes a basic one, and stuff like PHPBB2 is easy enough to install and configure.
Transfer of info would be the hard part, I doubt the proboards people would let us copy the database of posts to import.
Then again, it would give a nice, fresh start if we kept the important info and left some of the random chat here.
Oh yes, remember that the Hosting cost is yearly, IIRC the average for hosting is upwards of £10 per MONTH.

Good point about the "superfluous" chat. And, erm, about th cost. I re-checked some of the prices out there and was unpleasantly surprised at the cost.
Incidentally did you say that there was a bandwidth limit? I doubt that it would be exceeded but one has to wonder...

Yeah, some places seem good until you realise that the price escalates massively when you add in PHP and SQL support...
As for Bandwidth Limit, it's 10GB per Month, which should be plenty.
Shall I go ahead and get the space then? I could do with knowing by the end of the week so I can get it set up.

Sounds good to me. I won't be able to help out with any money right at this money though, but if someone can give me a pay-pal account id, I can send some money your way when I get a chance. Assuming that this someone paid for the webhosting, of course Integration of forum sounds like a good idea. I foresee that this means someone has to actually copy-paste all the important summaries and finished work, and then write additional summaries for important threads. It would be nice if several people helped out, but I would also be surprised if they did ( [/negative] )

OK, what domain name is wanted for the project? Stuff like www.anargo-sector.net OK? 2 or 3 names would be best in case one isn't available for whatever reason. Note: I double checked the quote, the £40 per year is for a .co.uk url - it's an extra £5 for .com, .net, .org or .info.

Sounds good to me. I'm not too concerned whether we have .net or .co.uk

Well, I have a knee-jerk reaction against a .co.uk ending merely because of the 'company' associations. But ultimately it doesn't make that much of a difference.
Possible domain names...
.anargo-sector. .anargosector. .anargo-sector-project. .anargosectorproject. .asp-40k.

OK, anargo-sector.net has been registered, and the web space ordered.
It should be set up by the weekend ready for content. I'll put up a holding hpage then, until the CMS is ready.

Erm, not too abstract question - can I help to buy the space? I mean someone (as I guessed Kage) pays for it alone. Shouldn't we all help if able?

Hails to you! As for paypal - it doesn't work with Eastern Europe at all - I know it from my ebay problems some time ago...

Well, let me know when you've managed to get that link up and I'll send some funds your way.
Once again, thanks. Now all we have to do is get the Mission Statement finalised so that we can get back to more detailed work in getting the sector finished. (Ironically, by combining original suggestions with a modified version of the project outline, it becomes possible to get a sector completed practically on your own in very short order...)
