Okay, talking to IWS a while back and thought that I would post my current idea on how the web-site should look like... If nothing else it will act as a discussion of how ludicrous my ideas are and how we should return to a more sensible version!
Opening Page
Some graphics... maybe the Anargo sector crest or something similar. And, of course, the traditional "copyright" information at the bottom...
Click on something to take you to the next page... (Might need an intermediate place that is the ASP "introduction", suitably modified from the one that is currently on the ASP temporary website...)
Galaxy Page
Basically, a map of the galaxy with the extent of the Astronomican and the various segmentae indicated.
A small flashing dot locates the Anargo sector. (This way we don't have to be consistent with the erroneous Dark Millennia map...) After a period of time a little box zooms out of the galaxy and we see the Anargo sector with all it's surrounding sectors. (Might need to get someone to do another pretty image by composites of 'real world' photos over a cube framework.)
Put the 'ole mouse pointer over this image and it 'explodes' into a framework of the 27 sector cubes with the Anargo sector, of course, at the centre were it deserves to be (! ). Click on any one of them and it takes you to a small description of the sector (see thread in Meta). Click on the Anargo sector and it takes you to something else...
Anargo Sector Portal Page
The 'pretty image' of the Anargo sector takes centre stage... well, just off centre since I'm also keen that next to it are the various 'map types' (warp, political, etc.) of the Anargo sector as well. Click on these and they take you to the different map types...
Say you've got the political map up and running. The various subsectors of the Imperium are going to be represented (in one colour), the eldar colony homeworld in another, the Tombworld another still... The accepted 'minor' alien races, etc. There will, of course, be a key...
Hover the cursor over one of the objects and you get a brief description... Click on one and you get taken to a page detailing that object. Let's consider that we click on the Anargo subsector...
Subsector Page
We're now presented with the 'pretty' image of the Anargo subsector. Hover over a 'star' or other stellar object and you get a brief description hovering... this would include UWP information and, well, not a lot else at the moment. It is an undeveloped world.
The worlds that are a part of the subsector - things like Anargo, Tryphon, the Academy, maybe Maeros - have 'crosshairs' around them to show that there is more detailed information. (Animation would be nice, i.e. the crosshairs rotate, or somesuch.)
Remembering, of course that we also have the different map types here... We've got the pretty image up, but we could also click on "Warp Map" to see the major currents, trade routes, etc.
Anyway, clicking on the Anargo system we get...
System Page
We've clicked on Anargo, which means that we have to go to a pre-system page. Two stars are going to be shown: Anargo and the Far Companion, Anargo Secundus. Clicking on either one will take you to the appropriate system which, at the moment, means that you get taken only to a brief description of Anargo Secundus (see the Anargo SR in "Anargo" board).
Remembering that this is all abstract... To the left of the page we've got the star of the system (size not shown, but the colour is), and then concentric circles representing the various orbits. If there is a world in that orbit, it get's a suitable pretty picture hung on it (done by world type rather than actual physical layout).
Hovering gives you the UWP of the world and a very brief description. Developed worlds have our crosshairs around them again... <click>
World Page
We now go to a representation of the world. The various parts of the 'standard representation' are represented in tab format so that the reader can click on them to get more information... Erm, this bit isn't really resolved in my mind since I'm not entirey sure what information we'll be including...
Erm, I'm going to have to leave it at that for the moment...
