This thread is designed to keep a track of all the current information on a given species/race. After this post only one person may reply to this thread: ME, the designer of the Jovans. Any posts made by another individual will be summarily deleted. I will not even read it to see if there are extenuating circumstances. From this point it is also the responsibility of the species/race creator to edit and, yes, delete posts in this thread. Posting the information time and time again will not be allowed. Simply delete the old information and repost the new. For that reason I suggest that you keep an appropriate file with all the appropriate UBB codes in it to prevent any trouble or heartache in the future. Rogue Inquisitors and, of course, Kage may modify if they deem it appropriate. Please post all feedback and comments, as well as any new concepts or ideas for the Jovans in the Jovan Discussion Thread. PS: The name of these aliens has been changed from Joveans to Jovans, because I found that too many aliens in the sector had the 'ea' sound in them. Atlanteans, Aoideans...

[glow=teal,2,300]JOVEANS[/glow]
[glow=teal,2,300]1. Overview[/glow]
The Joveans are a somewhat unknown race spread thin in the Ultima Segmentum. After their homeworld was destroyed by civil world, the Joveans have never been united as a race. Instead, most Joveans live onboard nomadic star ships that constantly travel the stars, stopping only to manufacture or capture the supplies they need to keep going. In a galaxy with humans, orks, chaos, tyranids and countless other great threats, the Joveans are constantly on the run.
Only a handful of star systems in the Ultima Segmentum contain Jovean colonies, as most of their worlds have been found and destroyed by the Imperium and the orks. In the Lazarus sector, where their dead homeworld remains as nothing but a mass tomb, only a single Jovean colony remains.
To most Imperial citizens, the Joveans are totally unknown. Only a few naval officers and free traders will have heard of the nomadic aliens, and of these, less than half know more than myths and legends. The truth is that Joveans prefer to have as little contact with the Imperium as possible, as their survival depends on hiding from the terrible humans who do not seem to understand the concept of peace. Only rarely will Joveans trade with human free traders, but the humans must be careful to hide any connection with the Imperium.
Not surprisingly, violent conflicts between Joveans and humans are far more common than peaceful trade. From time to time, the Imperial Navy patrols will stumble upon a Jovean starship, hail them on human comm frequencies and engage as soon as the star ship is identified as alien. Other times, it is the Joveans that attack. If they are desperate enough, Joveans are known to raid human outposts for fuel, water, valuable minerals or anything else they need. Some Joveans will even begin pirate activities, but these activities are usually short lived, thanks to the Imperial Navy and ork armada.
When the Joveans do attack, they always attack weak enemies and make sure that they have the advantage of outnumbering their enemy greatly. Though the Joveans do not have as advanced technology as humans, their superior numbers and careful ambushes make short work of their targets. In ground combat, the Joveans are often at a disadvantage against humans, as they are a race of arboreal brachiators. Still, the Joveans are excellent climbers, giving them a fantastic advantage in locations such as industrial complexes and dense forests, where they can climb and attack their enemy from all angles.
The Joveans are small creatures compared to humans. When standing on their hands, which they usually do, they barely reach a grown adult's waistline. The average Jovean is slightly less intelligent than an average human, except for social intelligence. The Joveans make excellent diplomats and traders, even when dealing with humans and other aliens. Unfortunately, there are very few aliens willing to trade with them.
Overall, the Joveans present a very minor threat to the Imperium, as they are mostly concerned with survival and preserving the status quo. Like humans, the Joveans have an extremely varied culture, and this is only amplified by their isolation in starships. While some Joveans are friendly and open minded, others are warlike and relatively aggressive. Still, most Joveans are shy of contact with humans, and they remain largely unknown to the Imperium.
