Vargr? Dunno what these guys are, but any refence to them in any way is prolly coincidence... What rpg/wargame are they from? I'm still reading through the background, but Kage is right, in that they do sound very similar to the Vargr from Traveler and Megatraveller. www.sjgames.com/gurps/traveller/alienraces/img/AlienRaces3.jpg[/img]This image comes from the Gurps version of Traveller. Below is an exerpt about the race from the Traveller Data Library: Intelligent major race descended from carnivore/chaser stock transplanted from Terra ( Sol / Solomani Rim 1827) to Lair ( Grnouf / Province 2408) during the heyday of the Ancients approximately 300,000 years ago. The typical Vargr is about 1.6 metres tall and weighs approximately 60 kilograms. They are upright bipedal carnivores, with rear limbs digitigrade and hands very similar in size and appearance to those of a human, although with significant internal differences. They have approximately the same physical parameters as humans and are able to use the same equipment without modification or additional instruction. Vargr still bear a considerable resemblance to their ancestral canine stock externally, though internally there are many important differences. In the Rifts Universe (Palladium Games) as well, there are genetically engineered canines (Dog Boys) that serve with the on of the factions....iterestingly enough, the name of your race is also close to one of the species of humans (the Vilani) that populate the Traveller game system. I'm not saying that you should change the name, more just an interesting coincidence. Your concept for a scattered race hold promise, but I think you need to scrap the aline canin concept. If you like, I do have several concepts for predatory alien races that may meet your requirements and can be fit into your overall concept.

woof woof? ;D
I like this, but I'd suggest you take Destacado up on his offer of an alternate ancestry idea. Dogs in Space seems just slightly silly, even if you make them logically evolved from a canine-like species. It's just weird at heart.

D'oh.... well thanks for linking me through to that information all the same.
Well that image kinda shoots the originality I thought I had out of the window (looks nothing like them tech wise... but yeah, I see your point here)...
Back to the physical drawing board it seems... I kno the canine aspect was a bit uninspired, but was tired of having the Space Wolves as the only representation of the species in a round about way (Norse wolves.... very nice, but not my cup of tea)....
Points well taken, and the Migration will be worked on... maybe I can do to these guys what GW did with the Kroot (not the egentic stuff). With the whole deviante evolution from a base animal (the Kroot have avian origins but look nothnig like any bird i have seen).
So maybe a Canine base genus with a totally different evolutionary path and appearance?
Help is much apprecioated... but I need a very clannish and pack based predatory theme, with a civilised edge to it...

[a href=" "] [/a] i know you didn't want helmets ,but i couldn't resist 'em ;D..or do you want to get rid of the dog face /fur thing completly??btw i think i've done the legs wrong ***woof woof? Just another little comment on the dog soldier issue, space wolf 13th company anyone. I know they are not, but comparisons can be drawn, I think its somtimes a mistake (which happens every where) aliens tend to get based on earth creatures, and while this can work for the weirder looking or obscure types of animal, the more common and recognisable creatures tent to look well...and I don't know of a kinder way to say this....really naff That is not a comment on your art there judd, which is as ever superb, mearly on the concept as a whole, not the race concept sidious, just the appearance....whoo this whole just keeps getting deeper can some one help me out

LoL! I don't know what to say, except that I share your fears, Dazo. I for one think that aliens that look like they belong in Duckburg have nothing to do in the Anargo sector. Your drawings have improved, Juddski, since the original suggestion of the 'werewolf' vaeloni, so don't take this as strict criticism

Its easy to critisise, so heres a concept of my own, perhaps you might find it interesting. Its not very dog like but it looks suitably alien to me so maybe theres somthing in it that might give you some other ideas.

Well its avian actually , and I drew that long before GW brought out the kroot, so as far as i'm concerned they nicked my idea Yes niddish might be a good comparison, but it was cos they use bio tech like the nids
