Well now, having been offered the temporary job of taking over Dorvaster for Minister I thought i'd better start a discussion on where people would like the concept of Dorvaster to lead. At the moment it would seem to be one of the least developed sub sectors with little direction and few concepts (over all and in terms of worlds).
I had seen it as being quite a rich and influential sub sector being second in terms of political clout to Anargo itself. Run like the medieval church would run one of its diocese (not sure if thats the correct term. It would monopolise all trade and have a finger in every pie. I know kage does not want it to be to powerful though. The thing is it is the second most resource rich sector in anargo, and the emperor has payed a visit so it would be hard to moderate it. When Sargassos fell (as the capitol I would imagine it would have been dorvaster that would have made the claim for sector capitol, its wealthy worlds, its pilgramige sites the fact that the emperor had been there would have made it a focus for development and trade. It would have brought in people from numerous sectors, not just the sub sectors of anargo. But for some reason, which the ecclesiarchy would probably resent power was handed to the Anargo sub instead.
You said the ecclesiarchy was curtailed in the entire sector kage, i'm not sure what you meant by that, could you elaborate a bit. You also said that or seemed to say that you agreed with my medieval style ecclesiarchy idea, but that because it was like that across the imperium dorvaster would not be all that rich and powerful...why. If Dorvaster isn't supposed to be to powerful/influetial then how is it like that, what held it back or is still holding it back(that question is open to any one by the way).
I do see Dorvaster and Meksum being strong, if not allies, then close in terms of political direction. Anargo being awarded the honour of becoming the capitol probably still annoys the church, and Meksum who would like to become the capitol would see a great ally in dorvaster in attaining that goal, and vice versa Dorvaster and the cardinals might see Meksum as a good platform for raising its own profile. Does Anargo actively seek to hold the other sub sectors down, this would be a great source of tension, and also a valid reason for hostility and resentment, not to contrived but quite natural to the human condition of stepping on others to get what you want.
Does any one else have some ideas on Dorvaster, I had thought that a pilgramage route would be a good idea, several shrine worlds, the cardinal world and a few worlds whose sole function would be to support the pilgrims and bleed them dry at the same time. Wealth beyond measure, as I say the faithful would be drawn not just from Anargo but also from the surrounding sectors. This might explain the wealth of the worlds in dorvaster, resorces that are vital for the continued survival of the route instead of precious metals and other high end stuff.
Any thoughts
