Just a quick heads-up to let you all know that I'm moving to another town tomorrow. I'm starting at a new school this autumn, training martial arts whilst continuing my psychology studies. Anyhoo, in case I disappear totally for a week or even more (however unlikely), don't panic. If there's something that I have to check out (in the Archaios sub or something), just check with Inquisitor Destecado instead Peace out.

I'll be checking in from time to time, but I too will be absent for the better part of the next two weeks. I'm on vacation starting Saturday (counting down the minutes). If it is an urgent message, please PM me. I will propably not be perusing the topics or posting with much vigor while I am gone.

Quick update
Ok, so it wasn't over a week, but I doubt I'll have time to make many posts in the near future. We're 75 students with 7 computers, I think. You do the math.
Malika, I practice TaeKwon-Do, and have been practicing for eight years now. I hope to get my black belt next year, if all goes well up here ;D
Anyway, I'll be checking out the latest posts now...

It seems that the majority of the 'big posters' are on hold at the moment. Even when I'm personally around I don't generally have the time for the long posts that I'm used to... (That and inspiration is drying up since there is very little discussion going on in such forums as Portent, etc. <sigh> ) Eight years for your black belt!? Yowzers... BTW, Chon-ji, Dan Gun and Do San suck the proverbial lemon. For a style that said that the Tae-guks were 'crap', their early patterns are tedious beyond belief... (Admittedly, it's fun doing the moves that don't appear in the Tae-guks until much later on, i.e. twin forearm block appears in Dan Gun but doesn't appear in the WTF progression except in Taebek, the 3rd dan pattern... )

And to think, I was about to become a Portent Guilder... Note, I'm a red belt now. I'll be a black belt in another year or two, so it's actually ten years for my black belt. Talk about lazy. I could have done it in five or six, probably. Well, they are meant for beginners who have only been training for months. But yes Cool, didn't know! That's a damned shame though; it's a very cool block!

Perhaps I should move on to greener pastures then, if there are any. And to think, I was about to become a Portent Guilder... Just saying from my perspective it's drying up. There is very little real discussion that hasn't been done to death before and few new perspectives to make re-discussion a significant effort. But that's just me... I'm not a wargamer so that might shade things somewhat. (Incidentally watched the 'Making of Firewarrior' the other day and was very amused at how they portrayed the universe...) Talk about lazy. I could have done it in five or six, probably. <mumbles something about two years and then moves on> Well, they are meant for beginners who have only been training for months. But yes True, but even so. Interesting to see the fall over from Karate in the pattern (the moving at angles from the cardinal directions; doesn't appear until Hansoo in the "Taekguk" black belt patterns (8th dan pattern))... Cool, didn't know! That's a damned shame though; it's a very cool block! Or, if you change the interpretation slightly, block and simultaneous turning punch to the head...

But that's just me... I'm not a wargamer so that might shade things somewhat. Being a wargamer doesn't really help though, when all people can talk about is silly stuff like what the Primarchs are up to (wow, that's original), whether or not the Emperor will become a Chaos god (wowee), and similarly uninteresting stuff. Visually, the game was not bad. Not great, maybe not even good, but not bad. Most of the architecture was ridiculous though, but the chaos-corrupted areas were amusing. What's that now!? Didn't know that either. Well, it's not very difficult, really. And a lot of other colour-belt patterns have kicks that are 15 or 45 degrees to the side, and stuff like that. I believe that is TaeKwon-Do heresy

(Incidentally watched the 'Making of Firewarrior' the other day and was very amused at how they portrayed the universe...) ...what? Where's that? And again, apologies for drifting away from the ASP.... ...I doubt I shall contribute as much as I have before (which is to say, little if not at all; you can get rid of the neighboring Alterak Sector if you like, it's my only legacy) if at all, for no reason other than that it takes a conscious and concerted effort to get involved in anything unless I've already built up sufficient momentum.

Random thought: Warhammer player is usually depicted as overweight male, which has its base in 2 things, masculine love for war and flashy toys and necessity to be patient during painting miniatures… here we see two greatest posters having enough free time for martial arts, which from my teenage experience (oh, long ago, when I was young and healthy and tried to learn judo, ju-jitsu and sambo) were quite time-consuming. P.S. Never liked all those systems with lots of beating and high kicks by legs…

I'm quite surprised to find that most of the 40k players in my area don't really conform to the 'geeky' stereotype. The really, really nerdy types are actually a minor group, though far more common than in other social groups (such as football teams) of course. And I believe the combination of martial arts and wargaming is pretty common, actually. I mean, after watching Star Wars, with Darth Maul, and playing Warhammer 40,000, with Space Marines in close combat, who doesn't want to kick ass?

At some point last year I was training in martial arts as well as other fitness techniques for something like, erm, 28 hours a week. Only three martial arts at that time, though: Hapkido, Taekwondo and Kung Fu. <sigh> Oh to have that much free time once more... Pulling down 30-40 hour money-earning weeks with 60 hours of PhD does have a tendency of eating your time, but even then I try and train at least 4-6 hours per week... One reason, arguably, that I type so fast... got to fit in posts with all that extra time. A fair enough point... they tend to have limited effect in some instances. All depends on what you're doing. I've always liked the fancy kicks myself. Indeed, watching Hong Kong/Golden Harvest movies and trying to replicate the chambara-style kicks can be quite amusing... and painfully fun! But best to combine martial arts with others. Over my, what, ?19 years of training I've various done Taekwondo, karate, hapkido, kung fu, aikido, jiujitsu, kick boxing, judo, kaze arashi ryu, tai chi, escrimma... blah blah... Always good for mixing and matching... ;D

Karate has been limited to a bit of Sentinashi, a bit of Shotokan, and a bit of Kempo... And, of course, that Kaze Arashi Ryu thingy-ma-bob... As to kung-fu, while dabbling in some styles the only one that I did for any length of time was Wing Chun...

Wing Chun?
Have you got a giant wooden man sitting in the corner staring at you as you type?
