This is where my knee-jerk reaction is for somewhere to actually produce something to be of value. Always forget that it is not necessary in 'business' since that is there to generate capital, not necessary goods... <sigh> I'll wait until you model the world and its relationships with those around it with the suggested 'trade model' in Imperium... I'm sure that there will be considerations about volume of trade between worlds and the concepts therein which you will be able to explain in a way that poor 'ole me can understand. (And this isn't sarcasm... economics sometimes gets the best of us poor 'ole archaeologists. We are, after all, right at the bottom of the food chain despite common assumptions on education and economic status... )

92% of the worlds surface is water so how can you have land based crops. Is this some kind of marsh world or do they build floating paddy fields. Are the seas empty because that would surely be the greatest contributer in terms of food

92% of the worlds surface is water so how can you have land based crops. Is this some kind of marsh world or do they build floating paddy fields. Recall that 25% of Earth surface, covered with deserts, ice and stonne give some food to us for feeding. And they can give 10 times more if needed. There I planned something akiin to rice on shallow seas, some fish as well...

so this world has 8% dry land and lots of low lying flood plains, which happen to be constantly flooded, with fresh water or sea water Either can be exploited for food, though not the same type obviously Is the world tectonicaly active, if it is you will have salt water, as you know the seas are salty due to volcanic vents on the ocean floor pouring out mineral tainted super heated water what are your thoughts as i think this is quite an important consideration. Unless of course you have genetically modified rice which likes salt water

It is a world of rice paddies... To be more accurate, this is the world for rice paddles as well as for million other things, including aqua-cultures and ‘usual’ grain crops. Better look at the brighter side – I haven’t (IIRC) wrote a thing on PDF regiments here… and this is a rare thing indeed ;D

ReligionThe religious practices on Neu Povolzh are not too un-similar to common Ministorum version of Imperial Creed, well-known all across the Imperium. One of the unique pieces is well-known verbal tradition of local priests, who are taught since the childhood and are able to recite word-by-word both main Ministorum-advised texts and local Deeds of Saints and Martyrs. It is said that Neu-povolzhians can cite Creed for a day without stopping, while local priests may do it for a week or more. The absolute record was set in 321.M38 by Pierro Manin, who cited religious texts for 23 days and 3 hours at the Anargo main catherdral, stopping only to drink and eat. At the end of the speech he fell and died and for his devotion Manin was uplifted to the rank of demi-martyr minoris by Sector’s Ecclesiarchy in 367.M38. Dorvasor at first (M33-M36) was interested in recruiting local priests to Missionaria Galaxia, but later, after Great Famine during Age of Apostasy there is some tension between sector and local priesthood. Locals are to a large extent very pious, sins such as thefts, murder, rape and similar are very rare. At the same time there is almost no external simulation of devotion to the God-Emperor, such as flagellation, feasting, etc. Priests have a great deal of informal power among the population and in important decision making official governor always should ask local Church representative for an advise. At the same time local priests are tutored in a quite rigid way, and almost never abuse their power. The prayers are made not only on High Gothic but on the local dialects as well, and allow for some religious choral signing. The ritual buildings much lowers and bulky in comparison with usual gothic architecture. Piece of Neu Povolzh history that gives clues to their feels toward local priesthoodin the middle of Age of Apostasy, arch-heretic Gorge Vandire decided to lessen the political influence of unusually autonomic Ultramar empire that in its influence affected almost tenth of the Segmentum. Several crusades were started – there were more like pogroms really, with setting Vandire puppets instead of previous governors. Increased IG presence and overall smaller output due to turmoil called for greater food exports from Neu Povolzh and Administratum clerks found nothing better than to increase food tithes from the planet. The greater extraction led to absence of new seed, causing smaller harvests and famines. Administratum exemplarily executed three governors in a row, but harvests continued to fall. This period is known as the Great Famine. Local highest priest Alberto Alexius, witnessing the dare situation, when thousand died decided to make a great sin and sold almost all Ecclesiarchal property on the planet to rogue traders for food supplies. His words where: “what is the use of great cathedrals and filigree statues embodied with rare crystals and gems, if there is no devoted man, who could pray here and praise the Emperor?”. <…blah skip…> He was tortured and executed on Dorvasor, but after Thor coming he was also added to local saints. Addition 2004-08-16PhysiologyNeu-Povolzhians are not very different from average Imperium humans. The rate of mutations is quite low. The most significant differences are slightly darker skin colour due to both gene-stock of population and work predominantly in equator region, where sun radiation allows for the faster crop growth. Lungs of local population are slightly smaller in volume and less effective as well as cardial system that spread oxygen across the body. The reason is excess oxygen in the air composition. It also slightly lowers average lifespan and creates problems with running for locals in less oxygen-heavy atmosphere. It is known that the locals often fall unconscious during marches if they aren’t supplied with oxygen. The waist is slightly more than average due to larger stomach (low-caloric hydrocarbon food) and kidneys (salty water). Kidneys failure is quite common cause of death for older Neu-povolzhians.

I would lose the above for two reasons, firstly larger stomachs wouldnt happen, If the diet was that bad people would either starve or die of malnutrition, secondly, salty water, dude you would have an infant mortality rate of 100%, they wouldn't be drinking salt water. The high O2 levels would kill them faster though unless they had some kind of medical soloution to it...like they do on seleca...*whistles nonchalantly and slowly sidles of into shadows*

I would lose the above for two reasons, Man, have you made any research on the things we’re debating? Because I did All Known tribes in Africa and Amazon basin that consume mostly low-caloric plant food have relatively larger stomachs. Same can be seem in herbivores, but to a much greater extent, because they usually get multiply stomachs. So this stays, unless you find another proof. Note, we have millennia for evolution here, quite a long time. It depends on density of solution. If you drink Earth ocean water you are dead, but within Earth nominally drinkable water differs greatly. In Donetsk region in Ukraine water (which they do drink!) is salty enough that soap does not have bubbles… my oceans on Neu Povolzh are much less salty than Earth ones. Depends what high means. Plus point that O2 inflow to the air increased slowly after world started to produce modified rice and other crops, and they had generations to adopt. And even now off-worlder isn’t dead due to oxygen intoxication… at least instantly. Any comments?

They grow rice man, if you gonna base it on that then use the chinese as an example, and what kind of agri world is this that the population should have such a poor diet And i though you meant large stomach's like what cows and things have, so I don't have a problem with it, but only if you explain their diet and why it is the way it is. Good god man thats horrific, I guess living in england means i'm kind spoiled, salty water, why don't they purify it, and i'm talking about both. Salt is deadly to infants even in very small amounts, so you should look that up and see what levels would actually be safe to drink Sorry, I thought you had written high, but you didn't, my mistake

Considering the fact that there are still Ukrainians there I would guess it's reasonably safe...

They grow rice man, if you gonna base it on that then use the chinese as an example, and what kind of agri world is this that the population should have such a poor diet I guess I’ll add some Chinese agricultural ‘quirks’ later, but I’m afraid to fall in easy solution that say – rice=Chinese, or dull man=president Bush … after all creating culture is often more interesting than borrowing one. And their diet is not really poor, it is just low-caloric… you have to eat much more salad to keep your weight than for example meat. And you can eat grass all day and still actually loose weight, because digestion will take more calories=energy. So they are well fed, but the variability of food is low. The largest waist size above all cultures belongs to Siberian tribes, such as Chukchas or Eskimo. This is because they have the largest kidneys. The kidneys are result of meat diet (only way to survive there is to eat meat/fat) and necessity to remove amino-acids (from meat diet) from the body. They also drink a lot to facilitate such a removal. Sometimes I wonder what for I know all this stuff Good god man thats horrific, I guess living in england means i'm kind spoiled, salty water, why don't they purify it, and i'm talking about both. They purify it, at least try to, but with low incomes and ‘it was always so’-attitude they have problems how to survive, not live long From what I know the similar situation is quite common in the world, its just we, golden billion don’t see it because the rest have no time no money for comps and i-net. Salt is deadly to infants even in very small amounts, right, in abovementioned region mortality is high… but it is also due to air pollution and Chernobyl and so on. I’ll add purifying water for infants in end-description though, thanks. Sorry, I thought you had written high, but you didn't, my mistake Don’t apologise, it’s ok.

Tithes and Trade The main exports of Neu Povolzh are, as well as for other Agriworlds, different agri-products. The primarily export good in terms of bulk weight and revenues is modified rice for light-salty water environments, commonly known as morice or mor. It is grown on shores and shallow seas of the planet, each year some part of sea made shallow. In order to minimise expenditure of morice on rodents and herbivores, their numbers are kept low by existence of rodents and insects-eating birds and animals. The second main export in terms of bulk is wheat and its modified versions from all around the Segmentum, which almost fully cover the entire planet surface that allows cultivation of crops. It is used also for creation of rations for horses in service of IG as well as for Gecks’ farms. In terms of revenue the second export is oxygen. There are multiple other agri-products, including different spices, oily crops, cotton and other products for clothes. Hand-woven and manufactured clothes are also exported, the first ones constantly come in fashion on different planets or out of it. Textile industry is still rather underdeveloped due to absence of labour force and large distance to consumer markets. Among main imports are fertilisers, including ammonia/urea/ manure based from the Hiveworlds, insecticides, herbicides, etc, machinery.
