If you are mining, farming, using an entire system for a war effort I would think the population would be much higher than 100 million - more like the billions. And it would easily call on over a million able bodied persons for the guard.

Its a fairly small world, and no one wants somthing that might border on being a hive world, so I've had to keep the population relatively low. As to mining and farming, I don't think you would need as many people as you might think, dont forget the 40k farmer will have many labour saving devices so more can be achieved by fewer people. I could have millions of troops, I still might but they would be mostly PDF I don't want to overly deplete the adult working population. Children and old people only do light work and menial chores.

I think of hive worlds being in the 15 billion + range. Any less and they are industrial worlds. And since you are using the entire system would still require huge number of people. Remember Earth has 6 Billion + right now and is far from a hive world. A system having 10 billion is not that far fetched.

It does deped what a hive world is classed as... ...Is a world with a population of 30million in one hive the size of Manhattan Island classed as a Hiveworld?? Is a world with a population of 20 billion spread across the surface evenly a hiveworld?? (sort of like Anargo here??

The population is 161 million for the entire system, the main world has 80 million with a population desinty on the continent lower than Britain. Many people live on the tropical islands, sailing cities and orbital bases. The rest of the worlds in the system are I feel quite heavily populated for mining worlds so I am reasonably happy.
How big is a guard regiment by the way, is it 10,000 men or is it less

Shhhhhhhh Don't let Kage hear about the guard regiment thingy!! It really does depend on the type of regiment. Check out the IG thread in the Imperium Forum

Depends on which thread and if it is still there... Imperial Logistics... we went on about alot of stuff in there...
An Inf Regiment consist of 3-5 Batallions (sp?) which consist of 3+ Companies each which consist of 3+ Platoons each which consist of 3+ squads each of 10 guys. So at a mininum you have 810 troopers plus assorted command staffs probably bumping you roughly 1025 total in an inf regiment (215 staffers and 810 troopers). Now this seems really low but is a little misguiding - this is the mininum strengh. Now doing it by 5 squads 5 platoons 5 companies 5 batallions (sp?) adding in various command staff (a little more at the regiment level) you can get a number more like 7100 total (~850 staffers 6250 troopers). So you might arrive at something like a 10-20% Staff (Staff takes up more and more as the Regiment gets smaller) and the rest troopers. So in a regiment consisting of 10,000 total you might expect 1000 of them to be staff and the other 9,000 to be troopers. My guess would be 1000 - 10000 total strenght is the range of a Regiment. Just adding another squad to the previous regiment results in and increase of standard troopers by 1250! The total Regiment strenght might be expected to be 8300. More than likely you will see the expansion at the company level and might see as many as 10 companies per batallion (sp?). This with the ratio of 5s results in a strenght of 13750 larger than what you are talking about. Of course I digress... as I am knee deep into Imperial Guard Infantry Regiment Structure.

It has a cool turquoise atmosphere and a core of ice and rock. It has one ring system comprised of dark dust. It has 4 moons, only two of which are worthy of note, the others being no more than large chunks of rock. Ukulan is the prominent satellite an orange world being over 4000 miles in diameter, it has a molten core, active volcanism and a sulphurous atmosphere which gives it a luteus glow. It has a population in the millions and supports the smaller mining colony on Laima.

It is considered by the more superstitious Kolkhozans to be a bad omen a cursed world. It was this belief which caused problems when it came to finding colonists to populate its moons. It has an icy ring system and 7 moons, the majority of which have been colonised for various reasons, mostly for mining purposes, but also for security as no world can be left unoccupied due to the threat of orkoid infestation. The three outer moons are the most impressive, Koshchei with its thick stormy atmosphere is only slightly larger than Levon, the sister moon of Koshchei. Aborack is slightly smaller, and with its deep oceans is the bread basket of the moon colonies of Zemes.
KOLKHOZ IV (Mara) G566369-8 A medium sized world, with a high percentage of water and a breathable atmosphere. Only the biting cold prevents life from gaining any great foothold. All that is but the hardiest microbes and bacteria which stain the ice blue and green, from orbit it seems like a Terran type world covered in liquid water and green plants. The bacteria proved to be a harvestable crop and on the most unlikely of world a thriving agricultural system has sprung up. The minerals in the crust of Mara have also proved to be of great value,
KOLKHOZ V (Tyrka) F663369-8 SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 3 YR00000-0, Orbit: 1 Y100000-0, Orbit: 7 Y53123B-8,(Ludki) Orbit: 50 Mi Tyrka is a medium sized world rich in various minerals. Its surface is tan with blotches of white ice. It has a ring system composed of dust particles and ice crystals. The largest moon Ludki is almost the same size as Tyrka, though because of its far obit seismic stresses are kept to a minimum on the two worlds.
KOLKHOZ VI (Leshii) H402269-9 SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 2 F270315-8,(Nornir) Orbit: 7 Mi FS00000-0, Orbit: 9 Leshii is a world of grey green granite and white ice, a barren rocky world whose population consist of a small detachment of imperial guard and a small team of engineers who maintain and monitor the mid system listening post. It has two moons. Nornir the largest, has a very dense core and has managed to attract quite a thick atmosphere of oxygen and nitrogen, it is also fairly rich in certain types of rare crystals.
KOLKHOZ VII (Louhi) XC00000-0 SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 12 F350562-8,(Volk) Orbit: 4 Y323365-8,(Fylgia) Orbit: 5 Y230365-8,(Vila) Orbit: 7 G656568-8,(Vodanik) Orbit: 8 Y200168-8,(Nahk) Orbit: 9 G350563-8,(Zaltys) Orbit: 10 Co H645566-8,(Elias) Orbit: 11 Y220669-8,(Yaga) Orbit: 12 G769669-8,(Iliria) Orbit: 30 Mi Co GS00000-0, Orbit: 40 H437362-8,(Erzulie) Orbit: 150 YS00000-0, Orbit: 175 Louhi is the giant of the system, a great ball of hydrogen and helium, a swirling atmosphere of blue’s and greys hide a solid metal hydrogen core overlaid by a sea of liquid hydrogen. It has no ring systems but does have 12 moons. The largest moon Iliria is a pale bluish white orb, 90% of its surface is frozen water and it has an atmosphere easily capable of supporting life, the only trouble is the very low surface temperature. It is home to a sizable mining colony, the presence of so much frozen water also means it is a good choice for a refuelling station. Also beneath its frozen crust their is an actual liquid ocean, which has led to the founding of an agri system beneath the ice. The moons of Louhi are truly spectacular in terms of mining and colonial potential, this has been exploited to the maximum, and Louhi has the second largest population outside of the main world.
KOLKHOZ VIII (Illya) XC00000-0 SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 7 H320360-8,(Bryjna) Orbit: 4 YS00000-0, Orbit: 5 Y100000-0, Orbit: 8 H303667-8,(Kulurvo) Orbit: 10 G679563-8,(Mina) Orbit: 12 H7A5267-8,(Midjara) Orbit: 20 H411260-8,(Horsk) Orbit: 45 Illya is a dark icy giant, deep blue and purple it resembles a great bruise. Clouds of frozen water speckle its surface with wisps of white. It has 7 moons, the largest two are planet sized brutes with a great deal of water and interesting atmospheres. The resource wealth of these moons is high, Mina, a white pearl of a world is the heavily populated centre for the moon colonies of Illya and has many factories and ore processing plants located on its surface. The moon Midjara is a hazy orange ball with oceans and lakes of hydrocarbons from which promethium and other petrochemicals are processed.
KOLKHOZ IX (Arina) H63466C-8 Co SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 3 F36046F-8,(Perun) Orbit: 4 G46426A-9,(Sorvina) Orbit: 7 Re F22336D-8,(Jumis) Orbit: 15 Arina hosts a large imperial colony, as it is one of the more important of the outer worlds. Arina is the refuelling and repair base for the outer system. It is also a warehouse world where the wealth of the system is sent to be prepared for pick up by the tithe ships which arrive every year, and for traders looking for a good deal. It has three populated moons one of which is a research station utilised mainly for weapon testing and hazardous biotech experiments.
KOLKHOZ X (Taoune) G32026B-8 SATELLITE DETAILS: Number: 3 Y101000-0, Orbit: 5 Y100000-0, Orbit: 7 YS00000-0, Orbit: 35 Taoune is yet another grey-brown mining world, cold, dry and almost airless. The mining potential played out only 500 years after it was first colonised, only Kolkhozan security forces remain now to ensure the world is not lost to a surprise assault by orks looking to gain a foot hold in the system.
KOLKHOZ XI (Morozkho) G60126D-8 The old man of winter, Morozkho is the outermost world in the system. It is an dark airless, frigid world, of pale grey rock and ice. As the outermost world it hosts the most powerful scanners and signal boosters in its monitoring stations. Again as with all worlds in the system it has a small security force on the ground and orbital defence platforms in orbit

Planet Description Kolkhoz is a placid world, blue green with great swirls of white clouds. The surface of the planet is covered by warm salty oceans, from which the majority of Kolkoz’s food is harvested. The land, the little there is of it, is a patch work of fields in which all manner of crop is grown, grains and roots being the most common. It is very pastoral, those areas not covered with habitation that is. Most of the cities are located by the ocean, both for defensive purposes, and to allow for a greater percentage of dry land to be given over to agri crops. Great port cities service the vast ocean going fleets, which transport the produce of the floating fisher communities. Kolkhoz is a heavily militarised world with a bristling planetary defence net, both orbital and ground based. A great wall links all of the major cites along the coast, in effect ringing in the interior of the single continent that constitutes the majority of Kolkhoz’s landmass. The planet has a wet and stormy climate, with great hurricanes developing during the summer months. Luckily, its main landmasses are in a temperate zone where the cooler climes tend to drain much of the bite out of the summer storms. The buildings and city layouts are standard for the fortress sub sector, walled cities arranged to provide maximum protection for the defenders and force a high attrition rate on the attackers. The buildings are low at the outskirts, with flat roofs for firebases and narrow twisting streets; the effect is of an enormous trench system. The walls, buildings and levels rise as they approach the coast. Here the great weapons of the Imperium are mounted, they can turn up to defend against orbital attack, or be turned inwards towards the centre of the continent.
Government The governance of Kolkhoz has always been the remit of one man, the Imperial governor, or as is the case now, commander and holds the title of lord marshal. It is his job to ensure the industrial, agricultural and military output of Kolkhoz remains within acceptable levels. The majority of resources are shipped to Massil, mostly in the form of ration packs and lasgun energy cells.
New commanders are appointed by the retiring lord Marshal; it is a powerful position to hold within castellan, it is also a risky one, failure to meet tithes results in the execution of the marshal and all his staff. It is surprisingly not the people who bear the brunt of the administratums displeasure, but those in charge; Kolkhoz is a productive world and has been for millennia meaning any short falls must be the result of poor management. Each region has its own commander who reports to the military high council in Lejansk. Each region is divided into shires under the control of a Reef; these men are responsible for taxes and production levels for that particular area and report directly to the regional commander.
Religion The standard Imperial cult is the mainstay of religion on Kolkhoz, with temples found in every major city, and with smaller chapels found in the more outlying areas. Though not rabidly fervent Kolkhozians maintain a strong yet dignified belief in the Emperor.
Society and law Kolkhoz society is grim, when not working long hard hours in service of the Imperium, they spend the majority of their free time drinking in the workers clubs or sleeping. One day per week is given over to the worship of the Emperor, and rest from work, this is one reason why Kolkhozians have great respect for the preachers of the Imperial cult. Before the governor of kolkhoz was forced by the ecclesiarchy to grant them a day of worship the people were forced to work non-stop without any rest or time off to worship the Emperor. The incidents of suicide and metal breakdown were of the scale. It seemed the Emperor himself had granted the wish of the people when his priests began numerous demonstrations to end the evils of the corrupted imperial governors. They succeeded, and the people’s workload was reduced, production actually began to increase, this pleased the authorities no end and led to numerous one-day holidays being declared. Though work is still hard, the people are now a happier bunch. The law was always quite strict, mainly a hang over from the older regime not wanting the people to have the capacity to rise up against them. It was actually illegal to own a weapon, now however it has become mandatory since the fall of Seleca prime in the Saylonia system. The only people who cannot get a weapon are children and those with mental disabilities. The justice system while being harsh is also fair and diligent in its prosecution of a crime, meaning if you are innocent, you will be found innocent. Though the number of police on the streets is high enough to discourage all but the most idiotic or professional from committing a crime.
Technology This close to ork space it is vital that whatever advanced technology is available is used. The lasgun is standard issue to PDF and Guard regiments, however if there are any weapons that can equal the lasgun and be as reliable in combat, then it will be acquired. Power generation utilises both fusion and fission, as there is the need for maximum power outage with a minimal amount of space given over to power stations. Technology is as clean as it can be on Kolkhoz so as not to impact negatively on the environment, and jeopardize agricultural output.
Telecommunications are as good as they get, any sighting of orks needs to be swiftly reported, and it needs to be available to everyone. Orbital satellites have a sizeable array of scanning capabilities and will track any planet bound object until verified as either friend or foe. This is a civilised world with both advanced farming and mining techniques, both to increase crop and ore yield, and free up more bodies for the military.
Trade and Tithes Its largest tithed export is food, much of it processed in to ration packs ready for use by the imperial guard, who are stationed through out the sub sector. Weapons, munitions and machine parts constitute its next largest export, the manufacture of these are vital in sustaining the fight against ork invasion. Minerals and other raw compounds do not make up a substantial part of the tithe, as much of the mining output of the system goes into the manufacture of finished goods and weapons. Kolkhoz also is expected to raise a new guard regiment every 10 years as well as maintain its own defence force. Luxury items while not being a priority are also produced, and while not contributing to the tithe serve to increase the wealth of the planet as a whole. This allows more advanced technology to be bought in when it is found to be necessary. Gemstones, wines and spirits, exotic fruit and foodstuffs tend to make up the majority of luxury goods produced by Kolkhoz.
Physiology The people of Kolkhoz are hardy individuals, able to bear arms to defend themselves and their world. The constant threat of ork invasion has given them powerful physiques, due to all the hard labour and military training required to be ready to repel such threats demands. The majority of the adult population tops 6’, with excellent muscle tone and stamina. They have a rugged appearance as the harsh weather and constant stress lead to what many would call premature aging.
Psychology The constant threat of orks invading their world has given the kolkhozians a strong mental disposition, though the rate of mental breakdown and psychotic episodes is slightly elevated amongst military personnel. However, drugs can be prescribed to moderate these effects and so lessen their impact to society. Depression is very common amongst adults at some point in their lives and is a recognised ailment that receives full medical support if it is reported. Most adults do not like to say anything though as they perceive it as a weakness to complain and so simply try to work through their problems on their own.

Language and DialectLow gothic is spoken by all, though with a noticeable accent, guttural is one word that has been used to describe it. High gothic tends only to be spoken by those in the upper echelons of government, military and ecclesiarchy, though there is no prohibition to learning it most Kolkhozians have better things to do with their time. Planetary Defence ForceUnsurprisingly the military is substantial; almost the whole population is expected to fend for themselves in the event of invasion. Almost every body owns some form of weapon, and will have had at some point in their life basic military training. The actual PDF is 10% of the population; they not only guard the home world but also the numerous colonies and mining outposts on the other worlds in the system. The mechanised ground support is some of the best that the Imperium produces, Kolkhoz has many weapon and tank factories and their infantry units are never lacking for artillery support. Kolkhoz also has a guard muster every 10 years with five full regiments being raised for the Imperium along with weapons and tanks, the sons and daughters of Kolkhoz are not sent to war unprepared. Any one can apply for the Guard but will not be accepted unless they survive the training; those that drop out will be returned to their PDF detachments or be offered a place in the PDF if they were a civilian. For many the guard offers the only way out of what can be a stifling soul destroying life of drudgery in the fields and factories of Kolkhoz. Orbital and planetary defences bristle with defence lasers, macro cannons and plasma weapons, as well as numerous missile platforms and torpedo boats. Communication and spy satellites are plentiful and keep constant vigil against the Ork infestation. I'm glad to see a developed SR for this. I would suggest that you whack the text into Word, or a similar word-processing program, and correct all the grammatical errors. It would also be useful to check out the meanings of various words since I'm fairly sure that they don't mean what you think they do. Or, at least, they're not bringing across the meaning that you want... I welcome the edited version. (Apologies. Normally I would go through and point them out, but wrestling with statistics at the moment with no hope... that was actually meant to be 'help' when I typed it, but 'hope' just works as a Freudian slip... ) :eyebrows:

I would suggest that you print it out and then read through it. You might also want to change the Word grammar setting from 'Standard' to 'Formal'. You would be surprised at how much additional little 'glitches' it picks up.
As for spellings and typos? Well, do a quick 'find' on an exact match for "Un" and you'll find one straight away. Right at a beginning of a paragraph.
Meanings of words... More your use in description. They can be misleading and potentially inappropriate. Again, reading through it again away from the computer might help. I've done the same in some of my more formal writing, and it's amazing the number of errors that can crop up.
Statistics... Nope, afraid not. But I got bored of writing about them the other day so I'll have to leave that to second draft, unfortunately.
