If we are going to include any Chaos Marines, I would suggest the Alpha Legion. Codex: CSM states that the Alpha Legion opperate deep inside Imperial space, sewing rebellion. Altarra, the world I hope to include in the Anargo Sector, was once the target of a Alpha Legion inspired uprising. The rebellion was defeated, and the cities which had supported the insurrection where wiped clean with atomic weapons by the loyal Altarrans. Perhaps Altarra was just one of the planets which Chaos Marines attacked? Did the Frostwraits come and save the day? Lots of ideas here.

well the number of Alphe Legion space marines is very low, 5 to 10 marines at most, my plan for now is that they are running a cult/crime organization which they use to find new recuits and get small amounts of rare resourses (stealing from the other crime organization called Aracnus, just check the criminal organisation thread in the Imperium Forum)
Most Alpha Legion forces will be cultist

I would love to see the Frostwraiths thwart the plans of the Alpha Legion on Altarra! This in turn, would lead to the realisation of my idea, when the Alpha Legion start a cult elsewhere to lead an attack on the homeworld of the Frostwraiths, to get their revenge (and more...?)
I wouldn't have a problem with there being more than 5-10 Alpha Legion Marines in the sector, but I don't see them staying very long on each planet. Are Traitor Marines able to survive outside the warp for long though? Don't they die from age like Imperial Space Marines?

that is still a mystery..but ok more alpha legion...
maybe they have cultist on the planets, but the marines are stationed in their battle barge or something like that, a few chaos ships...maybe hiding where all the pirates are hiding?
But I want to keep the hostility between the alpha legion crime organisation and Aracnus (eldar controlled crime organisation), the alpha legion want control of that sector too, or maybe have some eldar tech (since they might know about the eldar presence)

Their lives might be somewhat abridged depending on circumstances, but they can survive. Obviously they are going to be some exceptions... Kage

A chaos battle barge from the Horus Heresy, Malika, will not be appearing in the Anargo sector, I'm sure Those things would be the most precious relics of the Traitor legions, and act as the flagships for the greatest fleets, I imagine. From what I understand, the Alpha Legion forces can be quite concentrated even when operating deep in Imperial territory. Unlike World Eaters, the Alpha Legion CSM's will use stealth and misdirection to their advantage. They might not be in possession of more than a single chaos ship, but rely on travelling with the ships of cultists and unknowing Imperials instead. In the ships of smugglers, alongside aliens and mutants, in the cargobays of Imperial merchants, resting in wooden crates like vampires in coffins.... If the Alpha Legion had a fleet of ten mighty star ships sculking about in the sector, stealth would probably be out the window. And it's not like they could just park their fleet in orbit of an Imperial world, whistling casually to avoid attention whilst sending drop pods down to start cults Nay, I say that the Alpha Legion have no base in the Anargo sector. They have maybe a hundred Legionnaires moving through the sector like ghosts, and a lone ship that waits in the shadows until needed.

the legions had more barges, I mean they were huge...a battle barge could be the base of operations for the alpha legion in the sector.
I agree with the idea of not having a fleet, maybe one CSM ship as base, and the rest in stolen imperial ships, or warp portals

Just for the sake of argument... look at how many Chaos Space Marine battle barges were present in the Gothic war, and tell me if you find it likely that one would make its way to the Anargo sector

The Chaos Marines did not use Battle Barges of the same type as the current marines anyway. Before the segregation of forces the Marine commanding officer would set his flag and troops on the most promising of ships from the assigned fleet. The modern battle barge is primarily an assault vessel rather than the more versitile battleships used in the past.

What about Horus' battle barge? Was this an exception to the rule?

I belive (from mention in the distinctly un-reliable Eye of Terror novel) that "Battle Barge" was a term used by the Marines for any ship in their use which was designed primarily with planetary assault in mind.

There is a general tendency in the fan 'fluff' to concentrate on favoured aspects. Not surprising really... As much as possible, however, let's try to avoid it. Otherwise I'll let go with my favoured race and make the eldar a powerful player in this sector! Kage
