It's an old concept, and one that I disagreed with in Dorvastor so partly hypocritical, but one world in the Anargo sub... Unrectified UWP 18,22,18- G-V - A899687-B N Ag 702 965 ...has a high enough 'life' level to have sentient life. Now the traditional way that GW has preserved such worlds before is through the use of the warp storm. What do people think about such a concept?

Here a warpstorm, there a warpstorm, everywhere a warpy warpstorm. I think it's a little over-used.
One idea that sprang off the top of my head (and it's la-- no it's not, it's early, and I had a nip of vodka after dinner, so I haven't really got an elaborate idea about this, but how about it being isolated by legal not physical means? Lord Anargo (or someone) finds the antics of the sentients intriguing and has set the world offlimits so he can have them all to himself.
Or there's some quirk of their culture or biology that the Inquisition wants to know more about (precedent: according to the Tau fluff they're keen to chop up an Ethereal to find out how they command such obedience from the Tau since this might have Imperial applications if it can be duplicated). Thus the world is off-limits to everyone else by Inquisitorial fiat while they check things out. Or it's been zoned off by the Mechanicus for similar reasons.
Random thoughtspray over. Off to bed.

Indeed a world deemed Perdita by the Inquisition could have exisited in the subsector for millennia. No one is allowed to go there even if they are privy to the knowledge of its existance. The few that try could be captured by the Inquisition etc nd never seen again. The occassional Rogue Trader may get through though ;D If the alien civilisation has not yet developed space travel then their impact and interaction with Humanity will be greatly reduced. Tynesh

The inquisitorial mandate seems like a neat idea. It's certainly better than the "warp-storms" routine.

What about some astronomical/warp phenomenon that simply makes warp-realspace "translation" extremely difficult? Seems to be a bit of a "forced difference for the sake of being different" when put that way, though, and would probably attract discussion of *ahem* certain manipulative energy beings rather than developing the system....and, not being overly familiar with Anargo's more esoteric details, I'm not quite sure how that would work out. So.

I think we need to re-examine the existance of alien species within the Sector as a whole. the following list of UWPs is taken solely from the Dorvaster Subsector. If we go based on Life Values alone, then we have a serious problem there.
48,26,36 - M-V - C85AA9D-8 Hi Wa 814 Im 8C(20) Life Value: (8) Proto-Sentient
50,23,38- M-V - A6748BE-6 N 912 Im 9A6 Life Value: (9) Sentient
50,25,35 - G-V - A76AA96-E S,N Hi Wa 720 Im B5(28) Life Value: (B) Early Spacefaring
51,20,35 - F-V C335300-7 S Lo 700 Im 930 Life Value: (9) Sentient
53,25,39 - M-V - A547ABB-A Hi 614 Im 86(13) Life Value: (8) Proto-Sentient
Two worlds with proto-setient races, two with sentient species and one that has even reached the level of early space faring. Before we examine if an aline planet is viable within the sector, perhaps we should better define what constitues an aline race that needs to be exterminated.
Withing the fluff, there exists sub-species of men. These include Ogryns and Ratlings. It may be that some of these sentient species are an off shoot of humanity, that have been accepted as another sub-species.
The UWP listing also makes reference to species that has been "uplifted" due to technology gleened from outside sources or direct intervention form outside sources.
Example: The Old Ones can be said to have "uplifted" several races, by their interferance in their history and in some cases, direct genetic manipulation.
So how do you feel we should handel these worlds?...I hope the answer is not to merely alter the UWPs to eliminate them.

I must admit I really like the idea of the Inquistion doing "alien" abductions. Maybe earlier on, this race got found, the Imperium did something nasty to them, in order to clear out the infestation, but they survived, and now the Inquistion is trying to find out why.

As do I. Although we are trying to represent the 40k universe, and sometimes that even includes the horrendous cliches and bad... Okay, I'll stop there. Consider the idea forgotten... The life statistic is meant as a guideline more than anything else, though the idea of having a 'sentient' race that isn't recognised as such as a backdrop is always intriguing! Not a chance in hell. It's kind of like him having his own private daemon world... Okay, perhaps not that unlikely but this is as spurious as the warp storm cliche. (Then again, looks at the Buffer Zone and stays shut up...) And that isn't as cliched as the rest? Hmmn... One obvious way is expansion of the 'warp zone', but given previous lose thoughts on this board that would require either a significant 'energy source' in the system or massive population. Either of which aren't overtly interesting. LOL... <grin> Just give 'em another star drive! Anyway, I was going to develop the world as a civilised world anyway...

What kind of alien race are you planning on having on that alien world if I may ask?
Sorry for the one liner there

Of course, it doesn't have to be a young race that is either protected or unknown. It could be an ancient race, well known to the Imperium, that has been isolated following the Alien Wars in the Anargo sector, and is constantly hiding for the Imperium, which have declared the race extinct.
It could be a race that have been conquered by the orks. In the old fluff, orks are known to conquer human and alien worlds without slaughtering the population. Thus, instead of having to colonise the conquered world, they just make it a part of their empire.
And then, there is the possibility that they're horribly advanced, but don't have warp drives, for whatever reason. It could be that the Imperium never found them, because of a local celestial phenomenon that messes with their sensors (extreme solar flares), or that this race is simply so fantastically advanced that they can choose not to be found if they want to. Manipulating Imperial sensors, etc.
But then, why this world would be so close to the Anargo sub without being destroyed is rather difficult to explain, with all of the above.
Ah well, at least I tried.

I considered submitting my good ol' Atlanteans for this, but the planet's not watery and it also brings into play several problems already mentioned. And, the tech level is too low (9=not even spacefaring).
BTW, hiya. I'll try to show up occasionally.
