During the rapid expansion of the Anargo Sector following the conclusion of the Heresy, new regions of space were mapped and marked for future colonization. One of the most renowned figures of this time was the Explorator Gustavan Horp, an experienced captain and keen pioneer. Under his guidance several voyages were undertaken into the area of space known as the Massilian Diaspora.
His first voyage in 599.M31 charted the safest routes from the central regions of the Anargo Sector, against the warp currents of the Pendulum Tide. This strange warp phenomena manisfests as a strong flow within the Ether into the Anargo Sector from the neighbouring Cruciatine Sector. Horp and his cadre of Navigators spent seven years battling its eddies and streams to reach the Parcellum System. The system they found was desolate and lifeless; low morale and dwindling supplies eventually forced Horp to return to Anargo. Luckily, they were able to ride the Pendulum Tide back towards the heart of the sector, reaching Anargo in just over a month.
It was another decade before Horp departed on another voyage, granted permission to continue exploration by the Lord Anargo himself. With a flotilla of Navy ships Explorator Horp returned to the Massil Diaspora and began to survey the local systems. In the course of the 16 year voyage, a total of 19 major systems were identified in the sub-sector including many suitable for colonization. Horp and his crew were the first humans to walk on these new worlds, to gaze across their wide oceans and rolling planes. Members of the Adeptus Mechanicus accompanied the veteran captain, eager to learn more of these new planets, stars and ecosystems, and to continue the search for valuable STC data.
Upon his eventual return, the fleet was laden with treasures and curios; tales of daring warp jumps and death defying exploration of dangerous worlds. Horp was greatly rewarded for his efforts being made an honoury noble of Anargo, gifted with land and titular wealth. He was kept busy teaching in the Naval Academies, instructing a new generation of officers. However his thirst for adventure never died and many times he asked to be allowed to lead a new expedition to chart the worlds beyond the Diaspora.
It was not until 687.M31 that his request was finally granted. At the age of 139 Explorator Horp left Anargo on his last great voyage. With a crew of brave souls and trusted comrades he travelled through the Massilian Sub, making final visits to those virgin worlds. The last system in which he visited, a cold star cast its dim light over a frozen and inhospitable world later became known as Horp's Station. Finally the ancient explorer set a course out to the Cruciatine Sector.
Braving the uncharted storms and currents of wilderness space Horp set out to overcome the Pendulum Tide and reach the distant Cruciatine Sector. Many believed he perished and he was lost with his ship in the Deep of the Void. In fact his great instinct and knowledge of the Tide combined with the skill of his Navigators allowed him to plot a course though the rough currents and eventually he arrived at his final destination. Horp died only days after his ship the 'Morning Star' broke warp in the Cruciatine Sector. He died a famous and renowed man, conqueror of the Warp and hero to millions. With great saddness his crew placed his body in stasis and prepared for the return journey. They were able to cruise the Tide once again, riding the warp back to the Anargo Sector, along a route that would become known as Horp's Jump.
On his final return to Anargo Prime he was laid to rest within the Hall of Heroes, a great citizen and servant of the Lord of Mankind
