I have written up an outline of the data structure for the Database. I have tried to cover all aspects I could think of, but doubtless I'll have missed something along the way. It is available at: anargo.dread-zone.co.uk/ASPDatabase.zipIf anyone has comments, questions, or suggestions, add them to this thread please. Not that I may have gotten sidetracked with some of my own ideas when writing it up, if something seems odd just ask. Once we have decided on a structure, work can begin on getting the database built and ready for input. EDIT: I would be especially pleased if Zoom and Iron would check this out, given they probably know more about databases than me

I like it.
2 questions.
1) Would it be possible to run a search on the website? For example, could one search for 'Inquisition', and have all the articles with the word 'Inquisition' show? A more useful option would be to search all the article descriptions, but anyway...
2) How about including ranks and pictures for users? This would be especially cool if we have integration with the ASP forum, but cool either way.

I'm sure an Avatar type thing could be set up for the users, but since it's primarily for the backend of the site I doubt there'd me much call for it. A discussion needs to be had at some point concerning the number of users and their roles.
As far as searching goes, it will be possible to add a 'search' section on the site, which will allow someone to search for all articles containing a given keyword (possibly keywords). This would be in addition to a section where someone could click onto a page showing all historical articles, or whatever.
EDIT: Thinking about it, if we do add a forum like PHPBB (or whatever) it would be possible to integrate editing of Anargo Data with the various Usergroups that can be added... therefore the forum account would be the same as the backend admin account for each user (although not every member of the forums would have access to the backend)...

The people that would have access to the 'back end' of the site, something that I take to mean 'moderate' privileges (as it were), would by myself, yourself, CELS and Destecado. As to the rest...? I'm going to play dumb until the rest is sufficiently explained that I can pretend to know what I'm talking about in replies!

Should the database include the Thought For The Day?
Here's an updated list by the way..
Thought for the day
1. Alone, we are nothing. Together, everything. 2. War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength 3. No-one knows the shape of the future. We know only that it is always born in pain. 4. The distinction between war and commerce is perceived only by those who have no knowledge of either. 5. Victory is your goal. Claim it, make it yours and do not flinch to hold it against all else. 6. In the universe of blind, the one-eyed is king. 7. Kill the alien! The Emperor himself sentenced them, and peace is not ours to give. 8. How may the alien, the mutant and the unclean serve the Emperor? In Death. 9. Praise your armour and love your weapon, but remember always; your best armour is your faith, your most powerful weapon your hatred. 10. If a thousand times a thousand men must be made martyrs for Man, their sacrifice is still insignificant next to that of our Glorious Emperor. 11. The Universe sundered, the Way left open, the Resurgence of Man at hand. 12. Obedience brings Victory, and Victory is Life. 13. If you cannot say what you mean, you cannot mean what you say. Details are everything. 14. To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. 15. Wise is he, who knows the use of the fool. 16. The past tempts us, the present confuses us, and the future frightens us… and our lives slip away, moment by moment, lost in that vast, terrible in-between. 17. Claim victory in your heart and the Universe will follow. 18. An individual will create nothing, the whole will change everything. 19. The tainted must be purged for the pure to survive 20. Eternal damnation awaits those who stray from the Emperor's flock 21. When the wings of the Imperium spread, all cower in it's shadow. 22. Life is short, Mankind is eternal. 23. Those born to serve must serve. 24. The truth is as a sword with two sharp edges. Swung well, both cut the foe. Handled badly, and we harm ourselves also. 25. To die a hero is to live forever 26. The weak shall find no safety in cowardice. It may lengthen their life, but it forfeits their soul. 27. The Emperor sees your every action, hears your every thought. 28. There is none so blind as those who choose not to see. 29. Ultimately, all power derives from the blade. 30. Servitude is a blessing. 31. Without obedience we are nothing. 32. You must surrender yourself to your greatest fear, knowing it will destroy you. 33. We are all that stands between you and the abyss. 34. The sun has risen, let us make war! 35. We create the peace. We enforce the peace. 36. It is better to be wicked than to be foolish. The wicked sometimes rest. 37. The Emperor go between you and harm, In all the dark places where you must walk 38. All hail the Emperor! May he rule for a million years, and then for all of eternity thereafter! 39. Pray, and you will be heard. Fight, and you will be saved. 40. Hatred is the mark of the believer. 41. Death is nothing, your fate lies beyond. 42. Pain is the balm of the flesh. 43. Life is a trial, death is a gift. 44. Blessed are the cleansed. 45. Despair is an illusion, faith destroys it. 46. Your hearth is treacherous, clad it in chains. 47. Cleanse the enemy within. 48. Darkness is weak, it cannot endure Light. 49. Light your beacon of faith! Praise the beacon! 50. Sacrifice your blood and flesh to the bonfire of Faith. 51. Faith is our shield, Hatred our sword, Duty our Way. 52. The unfocussed is the first to turn. 53. Run away, and thy will be hunted; Hide, and thy will be found; none can escape the Emperor's Justice. 54. The mind must be honed as a blade, but if made too sharp it can cut the wielder. 55. Expansion does not always equal growth. 56. The Light is strong, but the Darkness is many. 57. We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark. The real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light 58. To fight for peace is to deny the purpose and destiny of Man. 59. The Emperor protects 60. To die for the Emperor is not your duty, but your privilege. 61. Though united in light, we must each face the darkness alone. 62. Pain leads to hate, hate to victory. 63. Every man must earn his right to die. 64. If once you start down the dark path, forever it will dominate your destiny 65. To rule the galaxy is not an honour, it is a duty. 66. The Light defines the Darkness, the Darkness defines the Light. 67. Pleasure is alien. 68. Doubt is an indulgence the Soul cannot afford. 69. The traveller knows places he has yet to visit 70. The master is no better than his servants 71. Do not give your life freely. The galaxy holds no value other than that of pure human souls. 72. The innocent dead judge you. 73. There is no solitude for the true, no death for the servants of the throne, for we shall all live forever through the Emperor. 74. Your Blood is the Emporer's Currency, Spend it well. 75. Duty stops only at death. 76. The death of a million innocents is justified with the destruction of one heretic. 77. Do not trust anyone, not even yourself. 78. Trust nothing save the Emperor’s guidance. 79. Purity through pain. 80. Mutilation, madness, death. These are the rewards of heresy. 81. Vigilance is the foundation upon which victory is built. 82. You are guilty, even when proven innocent. 83. Trust not the word of the stranger 84. Trust is not yours to give 85. Heed your suspicions - they may save your soul 86. Salvation through sacrifice. 87. There is no salvation for the alien, the heretic and the unclean.

Yeah, we could add the ToTD to the database. It'd let us do stuff like attibute them to the submitter...
As far as User Access goes, it'd be stuff like 'everyone in this usergroup can edit Anargo Subsector', and so on. Most likely the Moderators for that section of the forums would be able to edit the equivalent ares of the database.

Could you be more specific? I think I know what you're talking about but I don't want there to be any confusion...
