Well, to be fair the map in the 3E and (apparently) 4E rulebook also doesn't show the entire galaxy, so...

Well, I've fiddled about and now it looks more like a plan view IMO. Shame about the funny edges. Blast. I don't have anywhere to host it. You could try www.Photobucket.com or send it to me and I'll host it on my account there.

Any more luck on making a new galactic map? We still need it, and now that things are looking up for our website, it would be really nice to have one finished!

I know, but I think it had more detail on the worlds than DM...or am I wrong here, if so Im sorry

For a moment, I forgot the problems with the size of the Imperium versus the size of the galaxy. Grrr... Well, all is not lost. I'll e-mail the creators, ask them for their source image, and then make the appropriate changes myself, when I get home. Since I've already made all the calculations, it shouldn't be a big problem. And since your major objection to my last picture was that we weren't sure if the source image was of the Milky Way, there should be no objections this time.
Sounds like a good plan?
1) The image used by the "Codex Unforgiven" website is a picture of the milky way. 2) It seems to include almost the entire milkyway 3) This allows accurate estimates of the relative size of the Imperium and the segmentae. 4) I've already got the calculations at home. 5) Bingo.
Give me a thumbs up or down, and I'll try to get around to it this weekend.

Well, I actually found a map over at NASA's site of the milky way, which would have the added benefit of credibility... a warning though, the file is big... solarsystem.nasa.gov/multimedia/gallery/MilkyWay.jpgWe just need to place everything on the map and change the background.

I love it... fantastic. Shouldn't be too hard for someone in the 'know' to be able to change it. Then again, I presume that self-same person coud also do the 'subsector' maps and that isn't something that has been tackled... Kage

It's a good looking picture, but... where's the Sol system, exactly? Credibility is out the window if we have to guess which arm is Orion, and where exactly the Sol system is, along that arm.

It should be fairly easy to identify which is which from the picture than extrapolate outwards based upon the perspective. Might seem fairly redundant, but at least it won't be the same image that everyone else uses.

It would be helpful if they produced a top-down view, admittedly.
Is that based on real observations? Are enough stars in this galaxy mapped to produce a meaningful galactic atlas? CGI images based on real astronomical data can certainly be 'pretty' - look at star formation simulations to see what I mean.

Sojourner... or Destecado... Please position Sol on this map. At least it serves as an original image rather than those that just end up looking like the incorrect Dark Millennia map.
Should then be possible to use the general 'shapes' produced in 'plan' on the 3E/4E maps to extrapolate 3d shapes for the segmentum. Use CELS excellent corrected sizes for reference.
Possible to 'prettify' it somehow?
