How would everyone feel if I just shoe-horned the Ordo Sicarius into the role of the Ordo Malleus - in the good old days, when the Ordo Malleus was totally secret and totally kick-ass? Would that fit?

I don't mind at all, but they would be a sub division of that ordo yes, not a direct manifestation ie your average daemon hunter is not also going to be on the look out for rogue assasins.

Basically, the Ordo Sicarius as I'm suggesting it would be an all-round Ordo, similar to the Ordo Hereticus but a thousand times smaller and with a totally different way of working. They'd be concerned with assassins and daemon-hosts alike, because they'd be the watchdogs of the Inquisition, so they'd be concerned with anything the Inquisition uses.
They wouldn't go hunting chaos cults though, so they're not exactly like the old Ordo Malleus.
The new Ordo Sicarius would only be concerned with policing the Inquisition. Their interest in the Officio Assassinorum comes from the fact that the Inquisition often uses the service of assassins.

I would mind unless, of course, 'sicarius' has a nice and appropriate latin root. I would prefer something more... stirring. Something more original. Of course, no-one is really going to know it, but still... Indeed, the "Inner Circle" just works peachy other than not being in latin!

Siccarrii means dagger men, I believe its root is italian and that they were some kind of assasin. So Sicarius would be the made up latin equivilant, like most GW names, so its good enough for me.

Hmmn... no, not so sure about it. Makes it sound too much like an enforcement division (Infernal Affairs... ) rather than a 'hidden' organisation.

er, Kage, did you mean to say "Internal Affairs"? Right now it's quite a bit more sinister....

I believe he was joking, Glyphstone You would prefer something more stirring and original, Kage, but I don't really aim to restructure and revolutionize the Inquisition at this moment. I'm merely trying to make it more coherent and easy to understand for everyone. If you look at amateur fiction around the web, you'll find a lot of strange examples of Inquisitors. In our own forum, we have a member called High Inquisitor. What the hell is a High Inquisitor anyway? (No offence) My dictionary has 'Sicarius' translated to 'assassin' and 'murderer'. Shame, since I thought it meant 'secret' or something to that effect. Oh well. 'Inner circle' is just too plain for me, I'm afraid. Who would actually call themselves 'the inner circle', even if they do consider themselves such? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Well theres no reason it still can't be used, these men are the daggers of the inquisition held to the back of the officio, considering how secretive the assasinorium is these guys must be ultra secretive, besides which they seem to be official so why not add another layer of complexity to the inquisition.

Yes, it was a joke Glyph'. 'Infernal' as in Hell-like, a reference to the ordo malleus. (And a quote from a film, if people are sharp enough to remember which one it comes from! ) It has little to do with revolutionising the 'fluff'. The ordo sicarius increasingly sounds like a form of 'policing', the manifestation of a hidden group rather than the hidden group itself. Erm not that that particularly makes a lot of sense... 'Inner Circle' doesn't sound good for a name, more a description of function. Leave the ordo sicarius alone, for now at least.

It is actually explicitly stated that the Ordo Sicarius was specifically created to police the Officio Assasinorum. Which doesn't in any way mean they can't expand to policing everyone...
Of course they're going to have to be careful, collecting information without arousing suspicion and deferring to the Master of the Inquisition to ensure their own legitimacy.

Any updates that you can give us on the project so far CELS???
So is the Ordo Sicarius part of the Malleus or is it an entirely separate entity??
The undertakings of the Ordo imply that it is highly secretive even within the Inquisition. Could such an organisation survive without more acknowledged support? Then it may be an Ordo within an Ordo using the resources of the Malleus, while at the same time only being known to a few individuals.
I think a separate Ordo would be much more interesting, they will only have so many bases at each of the Assassin Temples, which are scattered across the Imperium. The secretive nature need not be so much of a problem to the rest of the Inquisition, it would be a way of preserving the concealment of the inquisitors from the Officio Assassinarium and other Imperial Departments. This I guess is dependent on how the Ordo Sicarius is run and under what pretenses.
Is it just a group of =][= who have charged themselves with watching over the Assassins or a body proposed by the Emperor/HighLords etc and then forgotten with time??

I don't see why the Sicarius should be anything to do with the Malleus at all. Malleus are daemonhunters, Sicarius are more like internal police. If they were to be a sub-ordo they'd be part of the Hereticus if anything. Personally I don't follow this business of 'every Inquisitor is an Ordo member' and as such I'd be quite happy for the Sicarius to be independent, yet having close correspondence with the 'Inner Circle' of the inquisition.

So is the Ordo Sicarius part of the Malleus or is it an entirely separate entity?? From what I know they are separate. Both from the old version of Malleus and the new one. I guess its entirely separate department of =][=.
