The problem is, wouldn't it happen all the time? It needs some other explanation, probably along the lines that 'echoes' aren't usually produced, but something happened here that was different. Perhaps the total destruction of a very powerful dameon in the battle?

My initial response was that an echo would create a form of 'loop', while the 'ghost' is actually a disincarnate spirit which has retained coherence and therefore volition. Kage

Not at all, these aren't 'ghosts' in the sense of Scooby doo or whatever, call them 'apparitions' - they do what they do and disappear again rather than acting autonomously.

Which is exactly what I meant by a 'loop'... they appear, do something, then disappear. Only they reappear and do the same type of thing subsequently... They're repeating the same actions and have no free will, and are on a form of 'time loop'. Kage

Pretty much, but with some variation, this is a warp and not a temporal phenomenon after all.

The warp is a temporal phenomenon... 'Ghosts' would be an extension of short-range order, perhaps. I'm always wary of people using the excuse "Heck! It's the warp! Anything goes" as the reason for including something. Kage

The beauty of Chaos is that being chaotic, it allows Order where no order should be as its own way...

Yes, I know that. And the reason that I'm not averse to the concept since it does work. Perhaps if we're to continue this we should move it to a more appropriate thread? Kage

There is actually a ghost ship in GW fluff - it's based on the flying dutchman, and appears shortly before a great tragedy occurs. One ship attempted to destroy it, but failed to cause any visable damage. Another's crew borded it and attempted to reclaim the vessel, but it dissappeared into warpspace and the men who boarded it were never heard from again. It was recorded by a boarding party that it was like everybody on the ship had just vanished - the captains log finished mid-sentance, there were cups of steaming recaf and so forth.
There's no attempt to justify it in the fluff from the point of view of souls escaping the warp, and there is an implication that the ship has become possesed with some kind of warp entity.

Interesting, I've never seen that bit of fluff, although it doesnt surprise me - ghost ships are a neat bit of stuff that you'd really expect GW to use.

If I may... I'm not too happy with all the names in Battlefleet Anargo, and since I'm actually going to be playing with them, I'll humbly suggest the following changes; Retribution: Master of the Stars --> Legatum Anargo / Legatus Anargo. Not sure what the difference is, but I think Legatum Anargo would mean the Legacy of Anargo. Dominator: Maleus Bakura --> Relentless Dominator: Superb --> Saint Sistina Furthermore, I would like to comment that some ships of Battlefleet Anargo were actually commissioned post 470.M41....

The commission dates were put in before the time was fixed. I got fed up with typing .M?? at the end.
I liked the Maleus Bakura... Ah well.

I'd like to pick up CELS suggestion we perhaps revisit some of the suggested names, Yeah I know whats in a name...a rose still smells os sweet but some are well, not so good... Indeed starships are the epitomy of the appliance of science but "Zanussi", whats it armed with high power spin cycle lasers There are others ;D but you get my drift

LOL... Maybe there is something in that. Of course, it applies across the board but there we go. If we have Zanussi, can we have Teefal as well?

Maleus Bakura is great but we might get some whinging from Star Wars fans if/when we go public - Bakura is an important system in a lot of the expanded universe novels.
