The might Portent.net has died the death. Although long since had that once wonderful of sites given itself over to minor discussions, still it's passing will be mourned. There are now but too few sites that offer a forum for discussion of the 40k universe that are not all but entirely compromised by the "mutual back patting" that is common, to my experience, on BL and GW forums. 40kOnline is one and we are another. Mark the passing of Portent and hope that the changes to the universe of 40k do not mark such here... Kage

I'll miss the 40kBackground forum on Portent. Hopefully the ASP will live.... I suppose I'll have to post somewhere to get my "fix," though....as long as I'm registered here, might as well contribute....*ambles off to find something to do*

I miss Portent, it was the forum to discuss stuff like background but also rumours and that kinda stuff. Now Im trying to get on Dakkadakka, but it doesnt let me log in 40kOnline is ok too...but still, not Portent...

I enjoyed popping in on Portent, it was a nice place to post. I wonder where everyone will go next? I know the BL forum is getting an influx at the moment but I not sure they are all from portent.
Is it possible Anargo will have a 'general background' forum now Portent is gone?

Proboards can't handle a raft of portent refugees, so I'd say no for the moment.
Something needs to be done, though. A members-only portent club, perhaps?

It sounds like a good idea to have a general background section here, but I doubt that will happen.

What!? Portent is gone!? I thought it was just a typically temporary problem! Why is it gone? Why didn't they say anything? Oh, the humanity!

I think one of the most irritating things will be that any new board is unlikely to benefit from such veteran posters as Kage or Brusilov. While I am tempted to just go and sign up for a new 40k discussion board, I can't see there being any which can compete with portent in terms of the quality and range of discussion.

A bit , this is the first time i've seen you post since I joined I never posted on portent, or indeed went there once I found the ASP I didn't feel the need to go elsewhere. However it must have been a good place if you lot are getting all teary eyed about it. Maybe we might get a bit more fresh meat..err new member joining the ASp now. And if their any thing like Kage and me and possibly CELS ;D then it can only be a good thing.

Although I hadn't posted there for over a year I still feel sorry that it ended.
I guess GW are rubbing their hands with glee now...

Aye, it's a sad day. Just registered to DakkaDakka, but you can't even begin to compare it with Portent. Sad indeed... Makes me happy to be a part of this project though.
I think this may also be a bad thing for this project, since I think that a lot of people found out about the project via Portent. I know I did. Where will we get new members now?

I tried to sign in with Dakkadakka, but it just goes really stupid and refuses to log me in, besides they hardly (well actually no) background stuff at all, fun if you want rumours or interesting conversions, but that's it! This board is a bit better, but still nowhere near Portent: www.40konline.com/community/index.php

Yeah, it took me a while to manage to login to Dakka too. Can't really say it was worth it...
I'll have to check out that other site. Thanks for the tip.
